Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Advancement, the Director of Development is responsible for operationalizing and supervising the development strategy for the Alberta School of Business. The Development office is responsible for the Faculty's major gift program, focusing on gifts in the $50,000 - $5+ million range. The Director will work with the Assistant Dean, Advancement on faculty-based initiatives, and where appropriate, on university-wide advancement initiatives. The Director will work collaboratively with faculty academic leaders and the Assistant Dean, Advancement to build and advance strong personal and professional relationships that result in philanthropic contributions from alumni, parents and friends.
Duties
· Manages a major donor/prospect portfolio of 150 relationships with the identified capacity to give a minimum of $50,000
· Works with the Assistant Dean, Advancement in the creation and elaboration of relationship building, fundraising strategies and in matching donor interest with institutional and faculty priorities
· Understands and develops the faculty’s and the university’s funding priorities, protocols and procedures to work with donors in the creation of gift arrangements
· Leads and oversees the effective cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for current and prospective donors, sometimes involving other colleagues such as the Dean, faculty and volunteers as well as Office of Advancement colleagues
· Works in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Development, and members of the development team on complex large-scale gifts to the School
· Trains and mentors professional directors and junior development positions within the School of Business in soliciting and accepting major gift donations in accordance with University policies, procedures, and protocols
· Establishes an effective partnership with the School’s Faculty-based leaders to cooperatively increase philanthropic support for the priority needs of the School
· Works with Alberta School of Business' Development, Alumni Relations & Events and Communications teams as required to coordinate and plan engagement activities for current and prospective donors
· Manages budget for Development branch and accurately captures fundraising activities in terms of dollars, number of donors, gifts pledged and received for reporting purposes
Qualifications
· Undergraduate university degree required; advanced degree desired; preference given to a business degree, possession of a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification is considered an asset
· Five or more years of experience in major gift fundraising with a track record of closing gifts of $50,000 or greater; related experience in sales, financial services and business development considered
· Knowledge of a variety of fund-raising tools and strategies, and demonstrated experience with activities throughout the giving cycle, including identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
· Experience managing professional staff, including both motivating and evaluating
· Excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Ability to meet deadlines and juggle competing priorities in a high-paced environment
