GRUPO IBEROSTAR CELEBRATES

UNIVERSAL CHILDREN’S DAY

·  On the 20th of November GRUPO IBEROSTAR will be joining the celebrations to mark Universal Children’s Day with a programme of activities that will be held at various hotels, giving parents and children the chance to learn more about the rights of the youngest inhabitants of our planet during a fun-filled day of leisure events.

·  A UNICEF and United Nations initiative, the day commemorates the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, designed to ensure a safe, happy and dignified childhood.

London, 17th November 2016. - As part of its firm commitment to social and human development, GRUPO IBEROSTAR is delighted to join in the celebrations to commemorate Universal Children’s Day, a United Nations’ initiative held on 20th November each year to commemorate the endorsement of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of Child, signed 57 and 27 years ago respectively.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child is one of the most widely-ratified international human rights treaties and establishes a series of rights for children, covering areas such as life, health, education, play, family life, protection from violence and non-discrimination. Based on these principles, and with the efforts and commitment of countries around the world, Universal Children’s Day was set up in order to celebrate their rights and raise awareness of the importance of continuing to work towards the creation of a happy and safe environment for children everywhere through dialogue and action.

Through its foundation, GRUPO IBEROSTAR has signed up to the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, providing support for children with a series of projects. In line with this, on 20th November, the company will be organising a very special day, designed to encourage children and their parents to celebrate this important event playing and sharing together, as well as exercising their right to be happy. In order to achieve this, the IBEROSTAR hotels, especially those targeting the family segment of the market, will be carrying out a series of actions designed to inform families about these rights and how and why they should be put into practice. Guests will find information flyers in their rooms and children will have a great time with the ‘Kids Only’ activities in and around the pools, painting a mural with our mascots Starky and Stella, playing with puppets or rounding off the day with fun-packed evening shows for children, to name but a few.

Since it was set up in 2004, the Fundación IBEROSTAR foundation has centred its activity in three areas: people, education and culture, and social innovation. Childhood is therefore at the core of the actions carried out by this not-for-profit organisation. Indeed, since its early days, Fundación IBEROSTAR has undertaken 64 projects and actions targeting this group, reaching a total of 202,922 direct beneficiaries.
