United Way’sDay of Action to Assemble 3,000 Baby Bundles with over 120 Volunteers

College Station, TX- After last year’s remarkable Day of Action efforts resulted in the assembly of 1,250 Baby Bundles by 100 volunteers,The United Way of the Brazos Valley’sDay of Action 2017 project goal is the assembly of 3,000 Baby Bundles with over 120 volunteers from 20 local businesses for distribution to area hospitals. A Baby Bundle is a tote packed with a board book, handheld toy, and other helpful resources on child development and community resources that families receive through the labor & delivery departments of area hospitals just after the baby is born. Day of Action 2017 will take place on Wednesday, June 21, 9:30-11:30AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church Activity Center, at 700 East26th Street, Bryan, Texas. Media is encouraged to arrive at 9:30AM.

Day of Action is an opportunity for communities to come together and address the issues that matter most to them. “United Way is about bringing the community together to address community issues,” states Alison Prince, President and CEO of United Way of the Brazos Valley. “Day of Action is a perfect example of what can be accomplished in only a few hours when people from all industries come together with passion and dedication around a particular issue and take action.”

United Way of the Brazos Valley is fighting for early literacy for all children as part of the 2020 Regional Bold Goals. United Way of the Brazos Valley has committed to ensure that every baby born in the Brazos Valley has a book in their home by their first birthday. Studies show that children who grow up with books in their homes, reach a higher level of education than those who do not. Today’s Day of Action is only a small part of our greater effort to reach 20,000 babies by 2020.

We strengthen our community by identifying our community’s greatest issues, engaging individuals to build strategies and investing for change.
