Position Title:Senior Accountant

Job Classification:Exempt

In compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act, this position is classified as an exempt position and the employee is not eligible for overtime. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will support accounts receivable and the grants accounting process for UWASC and organizations with which it has a fiscal agency relationship.The Senior Accountantwill be responsible for all aspects of accounts receivable and grants accounting with government, corporate and foundation grants received by UWASC or its partners.

This position will work withgrant budgeting, grant reporting and close-out of funded projects. Responsibilities will include working with the Director of Project Development participating in evaluation of grants in light of the organization’s capacity for the grant from an administrative perspective, compiling and accounting for all grant financial activity and records, developing reports required by grantor entities and leading grant audit reporting with an objective of ensuring 100% grant requirement compliance. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for knowing all relevant federal regulations in terms of practices and accounting requirements.

Other duties include monthly invoicing, collections and maintenance of all receivables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIESRESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and maintain grant reporting and compliance calendar to ensure that grant reporting requirements are met.
  • Review financial reports for grantors.
  • Serve as liaison with grant administrators and program directors to ensure appropriate grant accounting as well as quality reporting and internal customer service is accomplished.
  • Review specific financial transactions of both a routine nature and those related to specific contractual commitments and performance requirements to ensure grant compliance.
  • Maintain tracking systems to manage diverse grant programs.
  • Oversee accounting entries and monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts as relates to grant activity.
  • Initiate billing and collections for all functions of the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal and State Regulations regarding grants awarded to UWASC and supported organizations.
  • Interact with other personnel to ensure the ongoing function of the accounting, finance, and grant administration functions of UWASC.
  • Participate in meetings as required.
  • REQUIRED & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major in Accounting or related work experience.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in accounting, preferably in the area of grants administration and accounting. Excellent customer services skills with the ability to work with all levels of the organization and representatives of granting organizations. Significant hands on experience in government grant compliance and reporting, accounting in a non-profit environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Excel, and Word.
