WEEKLY SNOTEL SNOWPACK AND PRECIPITATION REPORT
As of Monday, June 6, 2011
The West is continuing to have unseasonable weather, with warm to hot temperatures in many areas, and another cold low storm system over California. Most areas are now experiencing summer-like temperatures. The exception is the Sierra Nevada which received additional snow and low elevation rain over the last few days, gaining the month’s average precipitation in most locations over the last several days, and increasing the abundant snowpack. The Southwest remains very dry and hot, with many active wildfires. Please refer to the state reports for the exact amount of water in the snowpack and cumulative precipitation at the SNOTEL stations of interest. With summer approaching, the majority of the West will see the large snowpack fill mountain lakes and rivers.
The National Water and Climate Center creates and transmits the weekly
Western US Basin snowpack and cumulative precipitation report every Monday.
This report is based on an analysis of data collected at over 680 NRCS
SNOTEL sites in the Western United States. A narrative description of
significant changes and events will be included in this report as
conditions warrant. Please contact one of the names below if you have any
questions or comments.

The Snow Water Equivalent Percent of Average represents the snowwater
equivalent found at selected SNOTEL sites in or near the basin compared
to the average value for those sites on this day. The Accumulated
Precipitation Percent of Average represents thetotalprecipitation
beginning October 1st) found at selectedSNOTEL sites in or near the
basin compared to the average valuefor those sites on this day.
* = Data are not available or data may not provide a valid measure of
conditions for over half of the sites within the basin. Refer to the
individual state reports for a complete data listing and basin analysis.
Units = inches for the Current and Average Snow Water Equivalent and
Total Precipitation values
Reference period for average conditions is 1971-2000.

Report Overview:
The National Water and Climate Center creates and transmits the weekly Western US Basin snowpack and cumulative precipitation report every Monday. This report is based on an analysis of data collected at over 770 NRCS SNOTEL sites in the Western United States. A narrativedescription of significant changes and events will be included in this report as conditions warrant. Additional SNOTEL graphics are available at the following links:
