National Curriculum Objectives –
Pupils should be taught to:
o  Recognise common uses of information technology beyond school.
o  Use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies.
You must:
o  understand that a range of information can be found on the Internet.
o  know what to do if you find something inappropriate online.
o  understand that being safe when you visit websites is similar to staying safe in real life.
You should
o  be able to recognise websites that are good for me to visit.
o  learn to recognise if you should ask a trusted adult before you visit a particular website.
o  be able to navigate around age-appropriate websites.
You could:
o  learn how to search online by using the alphabet.
o  understand how to search for a specified letter of the alphabet on a children’s directory site.
o  apply the results of their alphabet search to create a picture dictionary.

o  What does it mean to stay safe?
o  How do you stay safe in the real world?
o  How can you stay safe online?
o  What does SMART (the SMART rules) stand for?
o  How could you explain the rules to someone who doesn’t know them?
o  Is this a good website for someone your age to visit? How could you tell?
o  How would you rate this website?
o  If you are not sure, who could you ask for help?
o  How can you use the alphabet to search for things on the Internet?
o  Do you think there are other ways you could search for things on the Internet?
