MOTIVATION (Anticipatory Set)

Students will be given a 3x5 card; on this card they are to brainstorm reasons that they might want to move their desks within the classroom. The students need to list reasons to support this move. Then break the students into small groups and discuss what they wrote on their cards. A group leader will list some of the reasons from the group on a large piece of butcher paper that they can share with the rest of the class.

Finally the teacher will tie this idea into the urban and rural

  3. Tie the “Big Idea” question into the classroom and tell the students that they all came from a different family background but when they come to school each day they help to make their classroom unique. Discuss some of the ways that they contribute to the classroom community.
