Union Middle School SCC Meeting Minutes

April 21, 2016

In Attendance: Michelle Erb, Lynn Nelson, Brooke Rauzon, Kelly Tauteoli, Dave Christensen, Bryan Stephenson, Misti Rosenbaum, Andrea Mismash, Stacey Timmerman, Lorraine Rogers, and Jacque Todd.

1.  Back to School Night – Monday, August 22nd

6th Grade Orientation – Tuesday, August 25th

School Starts Wednesday, August 24th

2.  Celebration – Huge increase in our SRI reading scores. 6th Grade had a 17% growth for a total of 60% students proficient in reading. 7th Grade had a 15% growth for a total of 57% students proficient in reading. 8th Grade had a 9% growth for a total of 60% students proficient in reading. As a whole school, Union had a 13% growth for a total of 59% students proficient in reading.

3.  Michelle Erb – SBO Fundraiser – Raising money for Toys for Tots. The goal was $300 and they are almost there. The biggest money-maker was hat day, but students also enjoyed throwing pies in teachers’ faces, and duct-taping teachers to the Cafeteria wall.

4.  Changes for next year:

  1. No Advisory Class – Tier 2 Interventions will be done in small group instruction as part of the 100-minute class period and teachers will do Tier 2 within grade/content areas. We will also have co-teaching next year. In co-teaching the General Education teacher and the Special Education teacher co-teach the class. Students benefit from having both a content teacher and a teacher trained in interventions.
  2. Next year we’ll have the same schedule Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, we’ll have an extended 1st period. 1st period teachers will hand out missing assignment reports so that students can gather missing work during the day. We will use morning and afternoon assembly schedules when we need to have an assembly or a school-wide training.
