TITLE I PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY

2014-2015 School Year

Union Grove Elementary School believes that the education of children is a shared and joint effort between parents and the school. Parents are their child’s first teacher and Union Grove Elementary believes there is a strong correlation between parent involvement and student success. This Parental Involvement Policy describes information for parental involvement in cooperation with the school.

During the first semester, Union Grove will hold parent/family meetings to inform parents about Title I, the requirements of Title I, and our desire for you to be involved with our school. Parents will also be informed of the district-wide Title I parent meetings held annually. Union Grove Elementary will assist parents in understanding North Carolina’s academic content standards, North Carolina’s academic assessments, and how to monitor a child’s progress and with educators to improve the achievement of their child. We will provide materials and training as needed to assist parents. Teachers, counselors, principals and other staff value the contributions of parents and will reach out to communicate with and work with parents as equal partners in the education of their child.

Information related to school and parent programs, meetings and other activities are sent to the parents in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language the parents understand. Parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory children are provided opportunities for full participation in all parent involvement activities.

Union Grove Elementary School believes that School-Parent Compacts are an integral part of a comprehensive parent-involvement policy. School-Parent Compacts outline how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve with our North Carolina curriculum standards. This Compact will be given to all students with the expectation that parents and teachers will review the statements with the children. All teachers will sign it, as well as the student, parent, and the principal.

We look forward to working together as a team to ensure the success of your student. Please make sure to return the compact to school after you have signed it and contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or wish to schedule a conference. We welcome and encourage your involvement throughout the school year. Thank you!
