3. / Summary of continuing or unaddressed threats to children, examples: new displacements, morbidity, lack of water, shelter, protection needs, etc. [Emphasis on life-saving interventions.] /
- Outbreak of AWD /cholerain several parts of the region including Baidoa, Burhakaba, Wajid and Bardereis being major threats to children in this area.
- Unusual high numbers of displaced people from Mogadishu to Baidoa were observed during the past two weeks. At least 200- 300 people are arriving in Baidoa every day. Some of these people are proceeding to other parts of Bay, Bakool and Gedo regions. This high people arriving in Baidoa have increased the demand of basic services and the livelihood in Baidoa. It is also one of the main factors contributing transferring the AWD and other communicable disease.
- Water shortage is reported in Qardho, Idaale and some of south villages of Baidoa town.

Baidoa IDPS / 642 / Outbreak of diarrhea, measles, malaria, ARA, Malnutrition. / Improve Water/Latrines/Sanitation/Food / Baidoa Local Authorities/Baidoa Women Groups.
Despite, therecent high movements of IDPs from Mogadishu no major increase in this IDPS were observed. Most of these IDPs were believed joined their close relatives.
On 24/03/07 UNICEF participated Inter-Agency Baidoa IDPSprofiling conducted two IDP camps in Baidoa.
Burhakaba / 250-300 / Out break of disease, diarrhea, measles and Malaria / Sanitation tools/ITN/chlorination. / WV/SARDO/ACTION MAP.
El-Adde/Funuja of Garboharey.- Gedo Region / 3900 (as per UNICEF Gedo Flood assessment team (24/11-28//111/09/findings and recommendations. / Outbreak of Malaria, diarrhea, ARA, Malnutrition and other disease / Provide 2 ITN,2 blanket and 1 plastic sheet each family/HIV awareness/chlorination/Food / SRCS/Garborharey water Committee/Gedo Youth Network.
Sanitation & Hygiene training is going on in Burdhubo district of Gedo Region.
Dinsor / 550-700 / Out break of communicable watery diarrhea, Malaria, measles,ARA, Malnutrition and other disease / Chlorination activities, HIV/AIDS awareness and rehabilitation of shallow wells at the IDP areas, Sanitation tools, Sanitation facilities/toilets.
NB: in August 2005, UNICEF OCHA has done IDPS Rabid assessment in Dinsor district and later on Oct 2005, house to house IDP registration were done together with WFP and UNICEF which even IDPS givingRation Card to about 550 IDPS. Unfortunately, due to the weak Local administration, it was not possible to deliver the assistant prepared at the time to these IDPs and the environment was not conducive to reach the IDPS. As now reported about 150 additional IDPs from Ramo Adey/Idaale werejoined to this Dinsor IDPS December 2006. / IMC, ADRA/CBOs and Local Authorities.
4. / UNICEF actions undertaken during the reporting period to address threats to children. [Emphasis on life-saving interventions required. This can include key operational actions.] /
- Chlorination activities are continuously going on Mumim water supply water point in Baidoa (about 700 house holds-connected water pipe line and 400-350 donkey carts/200L each is served everyday). In Burhakaba SARDO Local NGO started hygiene training for 300 people in Burhakaba and some parts of Baidoa town.
- UNICEF Baidoa deliveredFive Cholera Kits (126 ctn each) to the following health centers - Baidoa Hospital, WV Wajid/MCH and WV/Burhakaba MCH and Bardere SRCS/MCH and Muslim Aid UK MCH in Wanleweyn.
- UNICEF Baidoa office transferred three cholera kits to UNICEF Mogadishu office for use of Benadir and Lower Shabelle CTCs.
- Intensive chlorination activities are going on Bardere Four water points located near Bardere River Bank. BWD Committee distributed 100 kits for use of 1000 families in Bardere area.Distributed villages include (Buulo Geedi,Buulo Kurmaan, Hilo Baneed, Kaskeey,Hilaac,Buulo Kuulow,Horseed,Waaberi,Warta,Buulo and Buulo Sheikh).
Women gathered to collect water kits in Bardere and a child anxious to see some items of water kits in his hut.
- Sanitation and Hygiene training is going on in Burdhubo district of Geo region. SRCS Bardere Branch is implementing this activity.
- Construction of 166 bit latrines to fire affected families is goingin Musawacsub-section of Bardere. Lack of additional shelter is main constraints to the Bardere Fire affected families.

Distribution of FRKs to 2772 families of 28 villages for South of Baidoa. The implementation is expected to handleBaidoa District Local Authorities (BDO).
Propositioning of EPI tents for possible use CTC from Jowhar or Magadishu. Operations team in Baidoa is working onfor the transfer.
Support to re-burry improperly buried bodies of Idaale area (400-600 bodies),through Baidoa Development Organization (BDO). The activity is expected to start 28.03.07
Other Relevant Information:
- Its following up here the training for Emergency response to Local Authorities and Partners in the region which believed to be one of key important issue in the zone.
- CPP emergency intervention activities is being recommending in Gedo and MiddleJuba regions.
