2011 Book Bursary

Information & Instructions (please read):
  1. To be awarded to any member of the Scarborough Campus Students’ Union who demonstrates financial need in relation to expenses for course books. Students must be enrolled in courses in at least one of the Fall 2011 or Winter 2012 semesters to be eligible for this bursary. Officers and voting directors of the SCSU are not eligible to apply. Awards from the SCSU Book Bursary may be distributed in the form of gift certificates for the University of Toronto Bookstore.
  2. A bursary (grant) is intended to assist students with unmet need with respect to their educational expenses.
  3. Before applying for bursary assistance, students are expected to have explored ALLother avenues of financial assistance (e.g. family support, savings, summer and part time earnings, OSAP or other government assistance programs, daycare subsidies, and bank lines of credit).
  4. A bursary is not intended to fund non-educational expenses or repay other debts.
  5. Complete all pages of the application. Answer each question and explain in detail any exceptional expenses or circumstances. Attach additional pages to this application, if necessary.
  6. Insufficient information or an incomplete application will affect the consideration of your application. Supporting documents, such as receipts, are welcomed.
  7. A bursary may become repayable should a student withdraw from full time studies during the academic session.
  8. The completed application should be returned to SCSU Office (SL108) byMonday, October 3rd 2011 at 5pm.

Students who rely on funding from programs such as OSAP, UTAPS or other sources of financial aid must budget realistically in order to meet their educational costs. A financial plan provides an opportunity to evaluate progress and make sound financial decisions. Please explain how you planned to finance your studies at the beginning of this academic session, what happened to change or affect your budget and why you now require assistance.
Students who have unusual or high expenses should explain in detail why these expenses are necessary and how they planned to cover the costs. Please provide documentation to confirm these expenses.
