Olson Professorship Application Process:

  1. 4-9 months prior to anticipated retirement date, Retiring Faculty Candidate submits completed Olson Professorship Application Formwith CV to Chair
  2. Chair works with Retiring Faculty Candidate to develop duties and responsibilities of Olson Professorship
  3. Chair submits signed Application Form & CV with recommendations to unit's Faculty Committee
  4. Unit Faculty Committee reviews Application Form and votes
  5. Unit Faculty Committee Chair submits signed Application Form & CV with recommendations to Dean
  6. Dean reviews all internal recommendations, then submits signed Application Form & CVwith recommendations to Provost for approval
  7. Provost reviews recommendations, verifies retirement eligibility with Human Resources (HR), and approves/denies Application Form
  8. Provost notifies Retiring Faculty Candidate of application status (approved/denied) with copy to Dean, Chair, and unit HRF; if approved, Provost includes Olson Professorship Agreement for faculty signature
  9. Retiring Faculty Candidate signs Olson Professorship Agreement and returns to Provost
  10. Retiring Faculty Candidate works withunit Human Resources Facilitator (HRF) and HR Retirement Specialist to file Notice of Intent to Retire form no less than 90 days prior to anticipated retirement date
  11. Unit HRF prepares retirement PAF and submits to HR with other required retirement documentation

If Olson Professorship Approved:

  1. Dean works with Chair and Candidate to draft an Offer Letterutilizing Provost's Olson Professorship Offer Letter Template (inserting specific duties, responsibilities, dates, salary and conditions as indicated in template) and sends to Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs for review and approval(note there must be a minimum of 90 days between the Retirement Effective Date and the Rehire Effective Date)
  2. Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs returns revised/approved Offer Letter to Dean
  3. Dean distributes approved Offer Letter to Olson Professor for signature
  4. Olson Professor signs and returns signed Offer Letter to Dean
  5. Dean distributes original signed Offer Letter to unit HRF for attachment to re-hire PAF
  6. Unit HRF submits Notification of Academic Hire form with request for CBC to HR for processing
  7. When CBC is successful and complete, unit HRF works with Olson Professor to collect and complete re-hire employment documentation.
  8. Unit HRF prepares HIR/RFE PAF according to the terms and conditions of the Olson Professorship Offer letter, attaches original signed Olson Professorship Offer Letter and all other required re-hire documentation, and sends to HR for processing a minimum of (5) business days prior to Olson Professorship effective date.

Applicants must be age 62 or older as of the retirement effective date to qualify for an Olson Professorship.
