Just as the world is on the brink of another financial downturn... there was a surprise among designers that showed in NYC during fashion week. One of the key trends walking down the runway for Fall 2009 is the material, fur- whether it be a hat, a cape, a vest or a tailored suit adorned with fur sleeves.
Fur ruled the runways for this upcoming Fall season! The list of NYC designers that included fur in their collection for Fall/Winter '09 is long and includes : Doo Ri, Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors, Oscar De La Renta, Thakoon, Tory Burch, Zac Posen, Catherine Malandrino, Betsey Johnson, Behnaz Sarafpour, Ralph Lauren, Dennis Basso, J. Mendel, Issac Mizarahi Donna Karan, DKNY, Vena Cava and Derek Lamb. Even though the economy is down, the trend of investment dressing is on the rise. Consumers are being cost conscious, but at the same time there are women out there that still want to dress glamorously!

Doo Ri showed us how to dress chic for evening with an accessory of a fur wrap over a dress. Betsey Johnson showed the downtown girl how to experiment with color. Behnaz Sarafpour elegantly tailored the fur for the more conservative working woman. Donna Karan also had this target customer in mind, creating beautiful tailored suits and using fur strictly on the sleeves.
Ralph Lauren used a lot of crystal clear white fur throughout his entire collection. Thakoon had fun with incorporating lots of fur bowler hats in a range of combinations along with glamorous fur mufflers.
Tory Burch showed versatile fur vests as did J Mendel and Michael Kors. It is actually a pleasure to view that designers are experimenting with fur again for Fall 2009. Because after all ladies, we must as well feel and dress glamorous even if things are changing all around us! Fashion is important as a social fabric and the NYC designers could not have chosen a better material to highlight for the fall/winter season!
