Inter Provincial Weekend 2009

The 2009 Inter Provincial deaf football championships will be held in Monaghan Town on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th April. Monaghan is a central venue for all 4 provinces, it has excellent facilities and the local Council and Sports Partnerships are keen to support the event.

This information booklet provides a background to the event. A provisional agenda for the weekend is detailed as well as information regarding the facilities that will be used.

Details regarding accommodation in the Monaghan Area as well as ‘things to do’ and relevant maps are also attached.

Provisional Agenda: Interprovincial Deaf Football Championships 2009

Friday 10th April 2009:

Teams and officials to arrive in Monaghan Town and check into their accommodation. Supporters also if desired.

Saturday 11th April 2009:

11:00 am Men’s Football Semi-finals (At Monaghan United’s pitch and adjacent playing field). A free lunch will be provided for players and officials at 1pm.

3:00 pm Men’s Football final plus 3rd/4th place playoff. (At Monaghan United’s pitch and adjacent playing field).

8:00pm Players to socialize in Monaghan Town.

Sunday 12th April 2009:

10:30 am Ireland’s Men football training. (At Monaghan United Football Ground). A free lunch will be provided for players and officials at 12:30pm.

12:30 pm Ladies Futsal Tournament (at Beech Hill College sports centre with free lunch provided for players/officials).

7:30 pm Awards dinner in the Hillgrove hotel

Playing facilities

The Monaghan United pitch is very good as would be expected for an Eircom league first division side. The adjacent pitch is average but will be developed between now and Easter. Some photos are shown below.

Monaghan United F.C. (Irish: Cumann Peile Mhuineacháin Aontaithe) is an Irish football club playing in the Football League of Ireland. The club, founded in 1979 and elected to the league in 1985, hails from Monaghan and play their home matches at Century Homes Park. Club colours are Blue and White, and go by the nickname The Magic Mons. The current manager is Mick Cooke[1].

Directions to ground Travelling from Monaghan Town, take the Clones Road (N54) and the Newbliss Road is the first left turn after leaving the town.

The Ladies Futsal Competition will take place in the sports hall of Beech Hill College Monaghan. The hall is large with an overhead seating arena so supporters can watch all the action.

Sunday Night Dinner

The Hillgrove Hotel will be the venue for the awards Dinner on the Sunday evening on the 12th April 2008.


The Hillgrove Hotel is renowned for its' exceptional professionalism; you are guaranteed splendid food, excellent friendly service and a unique ambience at all of their banqueting functions. The Hotel provides quality and care of the highest standard and we are sure you will appreciate their thoroughness and attention to detail.

A 4 course meal will be served at the Awards Function Dinner in the Hillgrove Hotel on Sunday 12th April. The dinner will start at 7.30pm sharp. Numbers are limited to 160 people and tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The tickets will be subsidised, they should cost 33.50 Euro but UDSC has negotiated a sponsorship deal with Monaghan Council so the Tickets will now only cost 30 Euro each with 5 Euro’s going to IDSA for Taiwan Deaflympics 2009. Local Amenities

County Monaghan covers an area of 1,294 km² belongs to the province of Ulster and is one of the 3 Ulster counties that are not part of Northern Ireland. Monaghan has an exciting range of activities to offer the visitor. There is something for everyone. You have the choice of an 18-hole golf course or pitch and putt both within a mile of the units. Rossmore Forest Park on the outskirts of the town is the ideal location for walking and also offers a variety of lakes for fishing.
