Thank you for showing interest in becoming a part of the project team for The Scout Association’s attendance at Pride in London in 2018. The confirmed date of the event is Saturday 7 July 2018 – see for the latest information.
We are recruiting volunteers to form a project team, which will work in partnership with a staff member within HQ’s Scouting Operations Directorate.
The Scout Association attends Pride in London to promote how Scouting is inclusive and open to all regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. This events allows us to celebrate the diversity of the Movement.
As a member of the project team, you would have a key role in planning and delivering our attendance at Pride in London. For further information take a look at our website.
Membership of the project team requires the following commitment;
-Active participation at a minimum of 2 face-to-face meetings of the project team, with the first meeting taking place between the 19-25 March;central location and specific date to be agreed on appointment. Please state in your application if you are unable to attend a date during this week.
-Active participation in a minimum of 3 conference/Skype calls (evenings).
-Meet with the project team in London the evening prior to the event (Friday 6July) for a final briefing meeting and arrangement of resources. (Accommodation in London can be provided for the Friday evening)
-Attendance from 8.30am on the day of the event (Saturday 7July), to support the morning meet-up and active participation in our walking party in the parade.
-Active participation in the evaluation of the event, at a meeting in London in July or August.
-Support transition of event to project team for 2019, transfer of knowledge, learning and ideas as new project team are inducted.

Role Description –LeadVolunteer (Pride)
Purpose: To work with the staff lead to Coordinate work of the project team and lead on the development of The Scout Association’s presence within London Pride. To be present and assist with on event delivery during London Pride.
Operationally responsible to: Staff Event Coordinator (as agreed)

Appointment requirements: To fully support the policies and Fundamentals of The Scout Association, keeping in mind the four strategic pillars of inclusivity, youth shaped, community impact and growth.
Key Tasks
- Coordinate the work of the project team
- Work in partnership with the HQ Event Coordinator, to create and follow a project plan.
- Liaise with FLAGS contact Pride in London
- Ensure project is in line with Vision 2018 and work with the project team to establish key messages.
- Ensure feedback and learning from previous years is utilised.
- Coordinate coverage of the event (photographer, etc.).
- Liaise with senior volunteers and other national volunteer teams – SAID, Scout Radio.
- Support the HQ Event Coordinator to create the necessary documentation for the project.
- Increase and support youth involvement throughout the project.
Communication
- Organise communications to participants and beyond.
- Liaise with HQ Event Coordinator to manage the booking/registration system.
- Respond to enquiries inthe Scout Pride email account.
- Seek volunteers as required by project team.
Morning meet-up
- Plan and coordinate the morning meet-up.
- Plan a schedule for the event, including arrival, talks and activities (SAID/FLAGS).
- Make any arrangements for external speaker/guest.
- Seek and coordinate volunteers to provide any support needed on the day (e.g. sign in desk).
- Work within a set budget.
- Plan and arrange food for all participants on the day.
Presence in parade
- Coordinate presence in the parade.
- Coordinate parade briefing at morning meet-up.
- Coordinate preparation and travel to the parade meeting point.
- Be present and coordinate presence in the parade.
- Assign a Leader in Charge for 16/17 year old participants and ensure relevant ratios of volunteers.
