Thank you for your interest in this key volunteer role as the UK Specialist Adviser (Air Scouts). This document aims to give you more information about the role, its context and an outline of the work you could be involved with. It also gives you a flavour of some of the national direction and priorities up to 2018. The development of Scouting for young people through challenging and safe activities is an identified way of growing our Movement. We are inviting you to be part of this team and to make a difference.

Job Title: UK Specialist Adviser (Air Scout)
Responsible To: Deputy UK Commissioner for Programme (6-14)
Appointed By: UK Commissioner for Programme
Job Outline: To advise on Air Scouting and to promote Air Scouting and closer links with Land and Sea Scouts
Functional Relationships
Internal:
· Deputy UK Commissioners for Programme*3
· Appropriate UK Technical Advisers
· Air Scout Leaders in Groups, Explorer Units and Networks, as required
· Regional/County/Area and District Commissioners
· Head of Education, Scout Programme Manager, Technical Manager and Officers within these teams
· Project leaders as appropriate
· UK Country HQs and other HQ staff
External:
· Other youth organisations linking themselves with the activity
· Including the Royal Air Force Recognition and Education teams
Key Tasks
· Advise the UK Programme Core Team on Air Scouting matters
· Promote Air Scouting internally and externally
· Promote the policies of The Scout Association and decisions made by the National Committees
· Communicate with all Air Scout Groups, Explorer Units and Networks on behalf of UK HQ
· Co-ordinate and develop Air Scouting (helping the Groups and Units work together)
· Gather and disseminate good practice in Air Scouting
· Contribute to projects and publications by providing specialist input
· Represent the UK Headquarters at events and occasions. (This may involve public speaking and/or presentations.)
· Promote the value of the RAF Recognition Scheme
· Link with the Scout Programme Team to encourage and enable all scouts to take part in air activities
Term of Appointment
The appointment is made by the UK Commissioner for Programme and is initially for a period of three years, commencing with a six month probationary period. It may be extended beyond the three years following review and can be terminated at any stage at the request of the appointee or on the recommendation of the UK Commissioner for Programme.
