Profile of the University

The University of Cambodia was founded in June 2003. The University strives to provide a quality of education for students to develop critical, analytical, and creative thinking, and to promote academic excellence at the national, regional and international levels.

The University prepares students to address the increasingly complex issues in society and to discover meanings in their own lives. It encourages diversity in its student body and meets the needs of students by providing them with interdisciplinary and innovative undergraduate, graduate, and professional courses.

The University nurtures and supports a diverse faculty who engages in active research, brings excellence and innovation into the classroom, and responds to the needs of students and the community.

In the short time since its founding, the University of Cambodia has quickly become a leader in scholarship, research and publication. The University boasts a rigorous, interdisciplinary American curriculum and Cambodia’s most extensive library collection. UC is a leader in the region in research, dialogue and publication. It publishes the “Journal of Cambodia Studies”—the only research journal among Cambodian universities—and is the first university in Cambodia to run a Distinguished Lecture Series and a Visiting Research Fellows program.

UC is also the organizer of the Asian Economic Forum and the Asian Faiths Development Dialogue; and it also recently hosted a total of nine Nobel laureates and other distinguished visitors as part of the “Bridges: Dialogues Towards a Culture of Peace” series.

The University of Cambodia is the only university Cambodia and the region which has its own newspaper (the Southeast Asia Weekly), radio (Radio Southeast Asia, FM 106) and TV (Television Southeast Asia, Channel 31) outlets.

UC is a private university in Cambodia. The University offers a range of Bachelors programs and Masters and Doctoral programs dedicated to quality theses and dissertations. Among its international staff are leaders in their fields who are dedicated to preparing students for future leadership roles in Cambodia and abroad.

Because of both the limited resources available locally and the worldwide trend towards globalization, the University has started to establish links with prominent universities in the region (e.g. Japan, Korea, Thailand, India) and elsewhere (e.g., the United States of America). UC also links with local organizations and Association such as UNDP, Asia Foundation, EU, and People Health Development Association. Such links will give our students the opportunity to access to a superior education through increased opportunities for the exchange of students, staff, experience and ideas.

One example of the potential of such international collaborations is our recently selected two students for exchange program with Payap University in Thailand.

The Colleges within the University are the College of Arts and Humanities, College of Education, College of Law, College of Management, College of Science and Technology, and College of Social Sciences. Institutes and Centers are the Institute for Research and Advanced Studies, Institute for Technical and Professional Training, Center for ASEAN and East Asian Studies, Center for International Studies, Asia Leadership Center, and Center for English Studies.
