Transplant Nurse Manager

Position Information

This is a full time career position located in UC Davis Health System, Transplant Center, located in Sacramento. The Nurse Manager has responsibility for the services provided by this department 24 hours per day, seven days per week . This classification is not represented by a union.

Responsibilities:

The Nurse Manager of Transplant Nursing and Clinical Affairs supports and leads a specialized team in kidney and pancreas transplant care. This position is a clinical resource and advisor to Transplant Center and Clinic staff. Primary responsibility is for the management of clinical nursing and other licensed professional practice and patient care delivery across the continuum of outpatient and inpatient care both in the Transplant Clinic and Transplant Center, including 24/7/365 responsibility for care including transplant offer and coordination, and post-transplant follow-up. The Nurse Manager Ensures compliance with national organ allocation rules including 24/7/365 timely responsiveness to organ offers, reporting, and adverse events.

This role provides visionary leadership in order to maximize effectiveness of service delivery systems and works to cultivate a clinical practice culture responsive to the health care environment. The Nurse Manager serves as primary contact to UNOS is acting UNOS transplant administrator when Executive Director is unavailable. This position performs on-call functions including response to UNOS emergent issues, escalation of patient safety or organ allocation issues, patient triage and any issues with coordination of deceased donor transplants. This position also functions as a clinical liaison between the transplant center and the organ procurement agency and the transplant immunology lab.

Requirements:

• Experience in solid organ transplantation and/or prior management experience

• Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing BSN required, Masters preferred, MSN acceptable, if BS in other field.

• Possession of a current license as a registered nurse in the State of California.

Successful completion of the UCDMC Pharmacology and IV Therapy exams. Current CPR certification

• Demonstrated management skills of a community-based primary care practice, a hospital-based primary care practice, or a hospital-based specialty care practice

• Knowledge of Joint Commission and Title 22 rules, CMS Conditions of Participation for Transplant Centers, OPTN Bylaws and Policy, HIPAA, HITECH, Common Rule (OHRP), federal and state regulations.

• Strong leadership and personnel management skills

• Knowledge of business and management principles, budget control and accounting principles in a health care environment

• Strong oral & written communication skills

• Knowledge of pathophysiology and nursing processes to make independent clinical decisions and provide clinical leadership within the department

Preferred:

• Certification (CCTC, CPTC, or CCTN) from American Board for Transplant Certification
