U of A Yuma Programs

The Yuma Alumni Club of the University of Arizona will be awarding several scholarships for students registering for the UA Yuma Programs during the 2015-2016 academic year. COMPLETED APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY Jan. 16, 2015- NO LATE OR INCOMPLETE PACKETS WILL BE CONSIDERED!! The scholarship committee adheres to the University of Arizona’s non-discrimination policy (http://equity.arizona.edu/policies).

Eligibility requirements for these scholarships are:

1.  Yuma County resident who has attended Arizona Western College and will be enrolling for the first time in one of the UA Yuma Programs Fall 2015

2.  Cumulative college grade point average (Cum. GPA) of 3.00 or better.

Applications will be judged on merit, not financial need. In the past, these scholarships have ranged in value from $500 to $2500 and must be used during the 2015-2016 academic year. Recipients will be able to accept this scholarship as well as any others received by other clubs, organizations or the University. Each scholarship recipient is required to complete a minimum of 12 units and GPA of 2.5 or better to receive second semester funds. These scholarship funds will be administered by the UA Alumni Association and the UA Scholarship offices. Within 2 weeks of packet deadline, an email will be sent to you confirming receipt of your completed scholarship application packet by the Scholarship Committee. All application packets will be screened. You will receive an email by late March indicating whether you are being invited for a personal interview or have been eliminated from the pool of applicants. If you receive a scholarship you are required to attend the Yuma Alumni Club annual Scholarship Awards BBQ in late April to receive your award.

Your application packet must be submitted to the AWC Financial Aid office or UA in Yuma office on the AWC campus no later than Jan. 16, 2015 and include the following in this order:

1.  Application Form- Do not include a cover page or picture

2. Resume- your scholastic achievements, extracurricular activities, honors, work experience, community service, and any other information you deem important (See instructions on next page)

3. Personal essay- No more than 500 words. You are encouraged to be personal and write about things that are important to you, including the following:

·  major field of study and why (what interests and experiences led to your choice)

·  description of your strengths, character, personality traits

·  an experience you’ve had in your life that you believe will help you be successful

4. Copy of your transcripts (unofficial accepted) from high school PLUS college.

5. Reference Request forms (3 required) completed by adults you are not related to: teachers, counselors, academic advisors, employers, etc. (each in sealed envelope)

6. Confidential Rating Sheet completed by major advisor or professor (MUST BE in sealed and signed envelope)

7. Email address- all notifications will be by email. Make sure this is an email you check regularly.

Send an email to Gay Thrower when you submit your packet. In the subject line of email, list your name, date submitted to the AWC financial aid office or UAY and list the UAY Program you are entering.
