Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Numbers 11:25-29; James 5:1-6; Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48 [137B]

You never quite know where the Spirit of God is going to pop up. We believe that the church is guided by the Holy Spirit. The institution is infused with the Spirit, preserving it from error, even if members (and even leaders) of the church go astray. We also believe that each baptized person is also endowed with the same Holy Spirit. This indwelling of the Spirit is one of the tenets of our faith.

Over time individuals, at the prompting of the Spirit, have called the institution back to its service of Christ. It could be someone like St. Catherine of Siena, or Dorothy Day, or Blessed Pope John XXIII. Each in his or her own way acted in the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Maybe you won’t be driving out demons (like the person in the Gospel), but the Spirit’s gifts are given for the building up of God’s people. What are you doing with yours?

/ Come and join us for an hour of prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

What is the connection between Catholics and the environment?
Catholics are called to respect God’s creation and deal with environmental issues, particularly as they affect the poor. Vatican and U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ statements have highlighted the moral imperative for Catholics to care for God’s creation and its impact on those least able to respond. These statements are based on scientific evidence and public discourse which have converged in making climate change such an urgent moral imperative.
Today the great gift of God’s Creation is exposed to serious dangers and lifestyles which can degrade it. Environmental pollution is making particularly unsustainable the lives of the poor of the world … we must pledge ourselves to take care of creation and to share its resources in solidarity.
--Pope Benedict XVI
