Tulsa Area United Way Announces 2007 Campaign Cabinet

The Cabinet members for the 2007 Tulsa Area United Way Campaign, which will kick off this fall, held their first meeting April 5. This year’s chairperson, Gary Paxton, CEO of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, welcomed and challenged the group, saying, “I’m delighted to head up such a dynamic leadership team with such a critical mission. Together, our efforts will impact thousands of lives through a successful 2007 campaign which kicks off in September. Each of our 65 member agencies and the community is counting on us to work tirelessly to achieve our goal.”

As 2007 Campaign Chair, Paxton will be responsible for leading the Campaign Cabinet and thousands of volunteers. The first responsibility of the newly announced Cabinet will be to recruit the rest of the volunteers needed for the fall campaign.

“As we begin our planning, we will consider the continued upswing in our community along with the growing need for our United Wayagencies’ services,” Paxton said. “TAUW’s Community Investments volunteers are in the process of determining how to best meet these needs. They will bring their Allocations recommendation to the Campaign Cabinet next month. Based on this recommendation and their analysis of the community-wide potential, the Campaign Cabinetwill develop theirrecommendationwhich they will take to the TAUW Board of Directors for approval on June 19. ”

The Campaign Cabinet has five basic responsibilities according to Kathleen Coan, President and CEO of the Tulsa Area United Way. “We begin byasking the Cabinet to recruit their own teams, develop campaign strategies division by division and provide motivation and direction for implementing the campaign in the fall. They are responsible for bringing in the final results and lastly, celebrating the services and the lives changed right here in our community.”

United Way’s area-wide campaign kicks off with the annual Day of Caring on Sept. 7, when an estimated 4,000 company volunteers will work throughout the six-county TAUW service area to complete projects for the 65 agencies. The official campaign closing date is November 7.
