TUCOM SIGHT CLUB CHARTER: THE TOURO UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE OPHTHALMOLOGY INTEREST CLUB

ARTICLE ONE: CHAPTER GOALS

I. The mission statement of TUCOM SIGHT is to:

Provide information and assistance to Touro University students interested in Ophthalmology, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Oculoplastics, Retinal surgery, Glaucoma and Corneal specialties as it relates to literature, diagnostic imaging, case studies, examination and surgical skills, networking and the pursuit of residency positions in the realm of Ophthalmology

II. Toward this mission statement, TUCOM SIGHT shall strive to:

Provide information to Touro University Students regarding residency and practice in the aforementioned medical fields.

Organize annual outings to Ophthalmology related Research Institutions and Conferences

Hold group discussions regarding current issues in the aforementioned fields.

Organize biannual reading assignments regarding eye and orbit related science.

Provide research opportunities and contact information for Touro University students in the aforementioned medical fields.

Engage in one community outreach event each year regarding public awareness and knowledge of ophthalmologic disease and common disorders with an emphasis on preventative medicine.

ARTICLE TWO: MEMBERS, OFFICES AND MEETINGS

MEMBERS: Membership in TUCOM SIGHT is open to any full-time student or faculty/staff at Touro University.

OFFICES: TUCOM SIGHT will have two offices and five officer chairs, comprised of the President, Vice President, Neuro-Ophthalmology Chair, Oculoplastics Chair, Retinal Surgery Chair, Cornea Chair, and Glaucoma Chair. With discretion, these positions may be updated as TUCOM SIGHT sees fit.

A. PRESIDENT: President duties include the following: Serving as the liaison between TUCOM SIGHT and TUCOM SA, TUCOM Administration, ensuring accurate Club records, including membership roster, monthly budget reports, and TUCOM SIGHT events, and TUCOM SIGHT Constitution; attending the weekly Student Council meeting (or designating a representative in accordance with TUCOM SA regulations); and election procedures. With discretion, these responsibilities may be updated as TUCOM SIGHT sees fit.

B. VICE PRESIDENT: Vice-President duties include the following: Maintaining Club records-- an accurate membership roster, monthly budget reports, TUCOM SIGHT events record (and reporting this record to SGA), coordinate and plan annual events and fund raisers in relation to available funds. The Vice president will attend weekly student council meetings and represent TUCOM SIGHT when the president is unable to attend. The Vice-president will assist the president in these and other activities.

C. Neuro-Ophthalmology Chair duties include the following: Researching, Collecting, and Maintaining accurate and up to date information pertinent to the field of Neuro-Ophthalmology – including residency and fellowship information, trends in the field, and any other important information regarding the field as it relates to Touro University Students–, and presenting this information to TUCOM SIGHT.

D. Oculoplastics Chair: Oculoplastics Chair duties include the following: Researching, Collecting, and Maintaining accurate and up to date information pertinent to the field of Oculoplastics – including residency and fellowship information, research, trends in the field, and any other important information regarding the field as it relates to Touro University Students–, and presenting this information to TUCOM SIGHT.

E. Retinal Surgery Chair: Retinal Surgery Chair duties include the following: Researching, Collecting, and Maintaining accurate and up to date information pertinent to the field of Retinal surgery– including residency and fellowship information, research, trends in the field, and any other important information regarding the field as it relates to Touro University Students–, and presenting this information to TUCOM SIGHT.

F. Glaucoma Chair: Glaucoma Chair duties include the following: Researching, Collecting, and Maintaining accurate and up to date information pertinent to the field of Glaucoma – including residency information, trends in the field, and any other important information regarding the field as it relates to Touro University Students–, and presenting this information to TUCOM SIGHT.

G. Cornea Chair: Cornea Chair duties include the following: Researching, Collecting, and Maintaining accurate and up to date information pertinent to the field of Cornea – including residency and fellowship information, trends in the field, and any other important information regarding the field as it relates to Touro University Students–, and presenting this information to TUCOM SIGHT.

ARTICLE THREE: COMMITTEES

COMMITTEES: Membership on any committee shall be open to any TUCOM SIGHT Club member. These committees will be formed and serve as directed by the President and TUCOM SIGHT, or by the respective field chair.

ARTICLE FOUR: DUES

DUES: At this time, no dues will be levied toward the members of TUCOM SIGHT. Yet, if supported by the President and a simple majority vote by all TUCOM SIGHT members, dues shall be collected on a one-time basis, subject to review annually.

ARTICLE FIVE: VOTING AND ELECTIONS

VOTING: Voting within TUCOM SIGHT will be limited to the lawful members as specified in this Constitution. All matters shall be decided by a simple majority vote of those present, provided that every attempt has been made to ensure the widest participation. The president of TUCOM SIGHT shall not be allowed to vote, except in order to break a tie in voting.

ELECTIONS: Elections for all positions will be held on an annual basis, during the spring and no later than a month prior to the last day of school, ideally coinciding with TUCOM SA and class elections.

REMOVAL: Any officer elected or appointed by TUCOM SIGHT may be removed if dereliction of responsibilities and conduct unbecoming of the officer has been objectively determined.
