Trusts and Foundations Officer

Salary: £28,000

The Role

We are looking for a hard working self starter, with excellent written and verbal communication skills to join our fundraising team at a pivotal time in the organisations history. You will be tasked with writing compelling and engaging applications to a variety of grant giving bodies. You will also be required to research new opportunities in order to develop and implement a funding pipeline.

You will have a proven track record of generating income through high quality applications, and the ability to quickly form relationships with internal and external partners as a representative of the organisation.

Your previous experience of research will be supported by your demonstrable attention to detail and ability to harness Microsoft Office packages.

The Charity

Positive East is London’s largest HIV charity. We have been supporting people living with HIV for nearly 25 years, taking them from a place of crisis at diagnosis, to one of independence.

Sourcing income from, and working in partnership with, trusts and foundations is absolutely integral to our ongoing fundraising strategy, to ensure we can continue to providea wide range of services to meet growing and evolving needs in the face of declining statutory income.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • To write a wide variety of proposals and applications to trusts, foundations, and other grant giving bodies in order to fund the work of Positive East.
  • Ensure all proposals and applications are appealing to grant makers, tailored to their stated objectives and well presented.
  • Work towards and contribute to the attainment of the Charity’s fundraising strategy through contributing towards achieving key performance indicators, including volume of applications written, number of contacts made, and successful grant submissions generating an agreed annual amount of income.
  • Accurately process donations and grants, stewarding donors appropriately in line with the stewardship strategy.
  • Collaborate closely with a range of internal stakeholders including key workers, volunteers, and service users to put together clear cases for support.
  • Facilitate networking and meeting opportunities with funders to gain a clearer understanding of their objectives where necessary, add to develop successful working relationships to generate income.
  • Research new and existing funders whose objectives can be aligned to Positive East, and appropriately match projects to them, ensuring that an active pipeline of potential donors is maintained
  • Ensure Positive East’s database records of funding applications remains well maintained, with accurate data regarding applications made, grants received, and progress reports due.
  • Contribute to the organisation of regular special events, which showcase the organisation’s work, and steward existing and potential donors. Occasional evening and weekend work will be needed.
  • Work with volunteers to support you in the delivery of your fundraising targets.
  • Support the Charities activities, as agreed with your line manager, around World AIDS Day, National HIV Testing Week and Pride, amongst other key annual events.
  • Any other duties consistent with the above and any other relevant duties as agreed by the Director of Fundraising and Communications.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Successful track record of generating income from charitable trusts and foundations.
  • Experience of producing high quality writing for an external audience, with the ability to write communications that are not only grammatically correct but also compelling and emotive.
  • Ability to think creatively and bring together new and attractive proposals and cases for support.
  • Keen eye for detail, with an impeccable level of accuracy across all work (written or otherwise).
  • Strong team player, with an ability to be an active and positive member of a team, as well as an independent self-starter who can be pro-active and demonstrate initiative and drive.
  • Confident networking and relationship building skills, with the ability to communicate verbally over the telephone and in person, to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong research skills, with the ability to retrieve information and construct compelling stories from qualitative and quantative data.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability manage your own busy work load and work under pressure to a number of rapidly changing deadlines.
  • Ability to manage, support and motivate volunteers.
  • Strong information technology skills including experience of using databases, spreadsheets, Word and PowerPoint to support the effective delivery of work.
  • An understanding of the issues faced by people living with and communities affected by HIV.

Desirable:

  • An understanding of and ability to use social media platforms
