Book Aid International is looking for an intern to join our dynamic fundraising team on a voluntary basis. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, organised and pro-active individual hoping to get experience working in Corporate and Trusts & Foundations fundraising.

This opportunity will give you an in-depth understanding of the work of Book Aid International and other international non-government organisations (INGOs) and will provide you with insight into charitable trusts and foundations, the millions they give to charities each year, and the way they interact with and influence the charitable sector. You will learn and develop key fundraising skills.

Book Aid International exists to help people discover a passion for reading and lifelong learning. We sent over one million books to sub-Saharan Africa last year, and each year we provide over 3,400 libraries with books, learning resources and training for librarians so that more people can discover the joy and valuethat reading can bring.

Description

Role: Trusts and Corporate Intern

Overseen by: Major Donor Manager/Trust Fundraiser

Time commitment: We are looking for a one - two day per week commitment for a minimum of three months. Shorter time commitments can be discussed, flexible working is possible.

Key responsibilities

To support the Trust fundraising programme by:

  • Identifying potential Trust & Foundation funding opportunities
  • Researching new and lapsed donors to use as a base for donor strategy development
  • Analysing giving history and giving patterns to identify potential prospects
  • Using a range of electronic and hard sources to identify potential donors
  • Updating the CRM database to ensure records are continually up to date

To support the Major Donor Manager by:

  • Identifying potential corporate opportunities through effective research methods
  • Developing funder relationships through assisting the donor communications cycle
  • General office duties as required to support the Fundraising Team

Person specification

  • Good written English and strong verbal skills, confident telephone manner
  • Good self-organisation
  • Good attention to detail
  • An interest in the charity sector, in particular international development
  • A strong interest in and some knowledge of the fundraising sector
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning new skills
  • Confident in Microsoft Office packages
  • Some experience with databases is desirable

Experience in Trustsand Foundations and Corporate fundraising is applicable to most UK based charities, from the largest household names to small community groups. The role is in the fundraising department of a small and friendly team and provides opportunities to learn about our international programmes and projects.

  • Travel (up to zone 6) and lunch expenses will be provided
  • An induction into the work of Book Aid International and any training required for the role, including the use of Raiser’s Edge
  • As part of the Fundraising Team you will be able to draw on the team for guidance and advice on working in the charity sector, including CV and job hunting advice.
