Trust & Foundations Officer

Job summary

British Blind Sport (BBS) is looking for a self-motivated and highly organised individual to join our ambitiousteam and generate income from Trusts and FoundationsforBritish Blind Sport.The role is within the Fundraising team at the Head Office but wewill also considerflexible workingandapplications from freelance Trust Fundraisers.

Reporting to the Fundraising Manager, you will play a key role in supporting income generating activities that support the whole organisation and help British Blind Sport to achieve its aims and objectives. You will work alongside the Fundraising Manager on the Trusts and Foundations programme and manage prospecting, bid-writing and reporting for small grants. You will work to a target to sustain and grow income from Trusts and Foundations and support other fundraising activities, as needed, across a range of income streams.

Working within a small hard-working team, you will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, tenacious and resilient with a strong desire to succeed. This role would suit someone who has proven success and experience of Trust and Foundation fundraising and is looking for an opportunity to build on their career on a part-time basis.You will have excellent literacy skills and the ability to write highly compelling applications. You will be an excellent communicator and able to liaise with all levels of seniority and build strong relationships.

Principal duties

  • Working with the Fundraising Manager to deliver to an income target from charitable trusts and foundations.
  • Responsibility for thesmall grant programme – prospecting, bid-writing and reporting.
  • Supporting the Fundraising Manager across other fundraising activities as needed.

Specific areas of responsibility

  • Prospecting, bid-writing and reporting for small grant applications
  • Identifying a pipeline of potential trust and grant donors and maintain a calendar of applications to made throughout the financial year
  • Donor stewardship - managing communications and administration for trust fundraising including: acknowledgement of funds received, thank you letters and reporting
  • Attendance and support at BBS and third-party fundraising events as needed.
  • Marketing and communication support regarding small trusts as needed
  • Maintaining filing systems to ensure records are kept accurately, efficiently and confidentially.

General

  • Ensure an ongoing understanding and empathy for blind and partially sighted people by maintaining a knowledge, passion and understanding of the work of the organisation and our associated partners and members
  • A commitment to a team philosophy, maintaining good working relationships with all BBS staff, board, members and associated partners
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly 1-1s with the Fundraising Manager and monthly meetings for all BBS staff led by the CEO.

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications
  • GCSE English, Science and Maths (or equivalent)
  • A-Level or equivalent level qualification

  • Certificate in Fundraising
  • Member of the Institute of Fundraising

Skills
  • A confident communicator who can build great relationships over the telephone and face-to-face
  • Great writing skills, including the ability to produce clear concise letters, plans, proposals and bids
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent administrative skills and IT literacy (Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to develop & implement plans

Knowledge
  • The basic principles of Fundraising – including the planning process, income sources and donor stewardship

  • The issues and barriers for visually impaired people wanting to access sport and recreation
