Trinity School win St John Ambulance 2018 Junior Schools’ First Aid Competition

Former National Finalists Trinity are top of the class again when it comes to First Aid coming first and second in this year’s St John Ambulance Junior Schools’ First Aid Competition supported by Jersey Electricity and sponsored by the F & P C Scotto Charitable Trust. Les Landes came an impressive third on their first time of entering. Other schools taking part were last year’s winners D’Auvergne, Plat Douet and Springfield.

We held our junior schools competitions on Tuesday the 12th March. Five schools entered with a total of nine teams competing. The teams of four students compete in a pairs test, they get split into two groups of two and completed the same test, this year it was an asthma attack. Next the pairs get back together with each other and get faced with a team test, this involves treating two casualties. This year’s injuries were a casualty suffering from shock as they had been bitten by a dog and the other casualty had a cut on their arm also suffering from shock.

All teams who took part did a great job and had a lot of knowledge. We would like to thank the Jersey Electricity for donating the trophies once again, and theF & P C Scotto Charitable Trust for sponsoring the event and donating the prize money. Trinity school team B received £500, Trinity school team A received £300 and Les Landes school team J received £200.

The Year 6 pupils were presented with their trophies and certificates by Jersey Electric Health, Safety and Environment Engineer Chris Bester and St John Schools’ Programme Co-Ordinator and Trainer Sue Pugsley.

First Aid is now an after school club at Trinity run by teacher Chris Godden who said: ‘The club had 14 members this year training from January to March and we picked eight to take part in the competition.

‘We won two years ago and went through to the National Finals in the UK where two of our pairs came first but you never know what can happen in competition. Confidence is a big thing and both this year’s teams were quite confident. Unfortunately there are no National Finals being held this year.’
