MINUTES OF LAMC A.S.O.
Meeting date: August 12, 2013

Call to order:
An official meeting of the Associated Student Organization was held at Los Angeles Mission College, Sylmar, CA, August 12, 2013 in the ASO Conference Room. The meeting convened at 2:28pm.

Milena: Motions to approve the Agenda as amended for the August 12th, 2013 meeting.

Report:

-Crossley: Congratulations to the new members. He advises the new members to learn Robert’s Rules.

-Milena:Attended the SAC Meeting. The SAC discussed about the ban on guns on campuses. This issue is a concern because an institution should institute precautionary measures on gun safety. The ban is currently an resolution for the district. The ban was due to a community extension program at Pierce College that taught gun safety. Another discussion was about international and athletic studentsin being determined to be on the second category of the priority list. Participating in an Aids walk can be provided as a fundraising opportunity. The SAC was also discussing about updating the Student Information System. Lastly, there was a discussion about a retreat in Trade Tech, although no date has been set as of yet.

-Chelsea: No report.

-Hannah: No report.

Standing Items
-Appointment of E-Board and Senators / confirmation (Oath):

Milena moves to appoint Jesus for the Recruitment Senator Position. No Discussion. Motion passes. Milena moves to confirm Jesus as the Recruitment Senator Position. No Discussion. Motion passes. Jesus is officially the Recruitment Senator of ASO

Milena Calderon, Hannah Maxfield, Jesus Martinez, and Chelsea Tang have been sworninto office using ASO’s oath using the ASO Constitution.

New Business:
-Unity Events:Milena moves to change order of business and consider the agenda item, “Unity Events”, as the first item of the day. Motion passes. Doleatha Young states that Mission College needs to promote campus unity. There have been issues on campus that have affected different nationalities. Mrs. Young has events planned to be held in the next two semesters. September 4rthwill be having a kick-off as the start for the following year of unity. Mrs. Young is hoping that ASO would sponsor this project. She is working with Mecha and is possibly considering on starting up a black student union. She would like ASO’s participation. She will be meeting with Mecha this Thursday. Mrs. Young will continue to update ASO on this project.Milena moves to postpone this agenda item for the agenda in the next ASO meeting.

-ASO Constitution:The previous ASO council has voted on two items to be added to the Election section of the ASO Constitution. ASO only needs to further implement on them into the ASO Constitution.

-LAMC Kick-off: This event is taking place next Wednesday. They will be needing campus tour guides from 8am to 10:30am. 3 members of ASO will be attending.

-Supplies Needed:ASO will need to order toner, t-shirts, and butcher paper.

-ASO pamphlet:Milena has made a draft of the new ASO pamphlet. If anyone had anyone has any ideas for what to add in the ASO pamphlet, contact Milena by today.

-Scholarships:ASO will be awarding two students with scholarships that were held by the previous ASO council.

Old Business:

-Welcome week/Club Rush:An order of $502 dollars for a snow cone machine and a popcorn machine has been placed. A price from Mission’s hot dog vendor had offered 400 hotdogs for $800 and 400 combos (soda+chips) for $1500. ASO decided to not consider hot dogs for Welcome Week. ASO would like to implement a $50 Book Voucher Raffle. Milena motions to allocate $500 for the Book Voucher Raffle that would then be broken down to 10 book vouchers subject to financial approval. Motion passes. ASO is looking into asking departments and clubs for participation. The Welcome Week committee is meeting on this Wednesday at 4pm.

Announcements:

-Crossley:Mr. Crossley will be out of office, this Wednesday, due to a funeral. He needs ASO’s representation at the Kick-off Planning Meeting, this Wednesday.
