Parent School Support Committee Meeting Minutes

Monday, May 8th, 2017

Attendance - Julie Jones, Michelle Folkins, Hedy Dobson, Lana Walton-Ward, Susan Lafford

Meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by Lana Walton-Ward.

Approval of the Minutes from October 19th, 2016 – Moved by Hedy Dobson and seconded by Julie Jones to accept the minutes as read with one change to the “Next Meeting” – TBA 2017.

Business arising from previous minutes

Parking concerns/dismissal traffic still an issue. Sue reported that the Assistant Facilities Manager, Denis Sears was at the school for a meeting and got caught in the traffic at 3:05 pm. He is now aware of the situation but has not done anything further to resolve it. Hedy Dobson, on behalf of the PSSC, will write a letter to Candace Scott, Facilities Manager-AESD voicing our concern regarding traffic issues at the beginning and end of every day.

New Business

  1. Atlantic Education Summit-July 5/6, 2017 – Sue reported that two teachers from TRHS are registered to attend. Cost is $80/person. She also indicated that it is opened to PSSC members and that registration is free for them.
  1. Sue Lafford informed the PSSC that she had been approached by the Sackville Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary to let us know that they are able to fund a mental health professional for ½ day per week for a year.
  2. BOYD-One to One program – Sue informed the PSSC of a potential new initiative/partnership with Staples about a new iPad (lease to own) initiative. Sue opened the floor to PSSC members to express concerns they might foresee with this initiative.

Sue also indicated she had secured funding to purchase 8 iPads for teachers who submitted proposals to use iPads the classroom.

  1. Sue presented an update on this year’s School Improvement Plan.
  1. Other Business – Lana Walton-Ward asked if any PSSC members were aware of or had watched the Netflix series – 13 Reasons.
  1. Sue asked the PSSC members to complete the annual Principals Review form.
