TRENDE LOS VOLCANES III

DAY 1: Quito – Ambato | DAY 2: Ambato – Quito

The adventure begins at Quito’s Chimbacalle station, from where we make our way south, slowly leaving behind urban life towards the green valleys of the Andes, with breathtaking views of mountains such as Pichincha, Atacazo, Pasochoa, Illinizas, Antisana and Corazón.

After passing through the verdant valley of Machachi, we climb to 3,547 m to arrive at Cotopaxi station, where a trek through the forest of the National Recreation Area “El Boliche” is the reward. At the Café delTren, women from the local community receive us with specialities from the region.

After our break, we will cross beautiful landscapes of Andean forests, arriving at the provincial capital of Latacunga, where an artistic show welcomes us and we can peruse handicrafts from the region. Lunch will be served as we travel on southwards to Ambato. Climbing towards the town of Cunchibamba, the lagoon of Yambo is a treat to admire on the north side of the tracks. Arriving at Ambato, dancing “devils” receive us to the beat of a local band representing the famous “DiabladaPillareña”.

After a night’s rest, the train leaves Ambato, heading north, passing over the impressive elevated bridge at the town’s entrance. As we travel out into the countryside, we will be able to appreciate the variety of crops grown along the Central Highlands of the country. We will arrive at the Cotopaxi station (at the “El Boliche” Recreational Area) where a traditional lunch is served at the Café delTren, after which we will stop in Machachi, land of chagra cowboys, where we will visit La Hosteria Granja La Estación animal farm. At the end of the activities we will return to Quito.
