TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
Travel to Midfield Campus:
We recognise that, with Bromley being the largest of all London boroughs, that having a child attend Midfield Campus might not be the easiest thing to organise practically. Therefore, transport assistance is provided within certain restrictions. Those restriction are explained below, and follow guidance from the London Borough of Bromley.
Ultimately, however, it is the responsibility of the parent/carer to ensure that their child attends school.
Tiers of support:
Where transport is offered, there are various tiers of support offered. These may include:
- Financial support being offered for bus fares
- Financial support being offered for private cars i.e. mileage/petrol costs.
- Provision of a taxi to take a child on as part of a route
It is important to note that taxi support is not an automatic option – costs are very high and we only offer this in particular circumstances. Where taxi support is offered it is conditional upon good behaviour in the car by the child. Finally, it is unlikely that any pupil will be the only child in the taxi – as well as the driver and the adult escort in the car, several children are likely to be collected as part of a route.
Transport restrictions:
For full information, please refer to the most recent policy of the London Borough of Bromley, which can be found at:
Bromley GovWebsite
Transport assistance will not be provided in cases where:
- The child is below 8 years of age and lives within two miles of the school.
- The child is above 8 years of age and lives within three miles..
Transport assistance will be provided where the pupil has an SEN /EHC plan and
- Has been assessed as requiring transport assistance to access their specialist provision and / or;
- The Council has determined and named the special provision in the statement as being the nearest available special provision that is able to meet the child’s needs and / or;
- The child’s health needs are such that upon written medical advice, ( date within the last twelve months) travel assistance is necessary to access their specialist provision.
- For children with SEN from low income families (those who are entitled to free school meals or who are in receipt of the maximum level of working tax credits) the eligibility criteria are varied:
- For children between the ages of 8 years and 11 years from low income families the 3 mile walking distance is lowered to 2 miles.
Final information:
When transport support is offered, it is through the London Borough of Bromley’s transport provision. These colleagues ensure that the services offered are of a high quality with any drivers/escorts having been subject to DBS/safeguarding procedures.
Midfield Campus recognises that the various restrictions can be confusing. One of the items for discussion in the initial admissions interview is the arrangements for transport so that any questions can be resolved.
