PURPOSE OF ROLE
Transport service users, carers and staff members around the community using one of the service’s own fleet vehicles.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Driving
/
  • Transport the passengers safely and efficiently between the two designated locations.

  • Assist passengers in and out of the premises and vehicles with appropriate support and guidance from staff.

  • Assist passengers with pieces of equipment, wheelchairs and belongings, ensuring safety and security at all times.

  1. Passenger Wellbeing & Safety

  • Drive in a safe manner within legal speed limits with due regards to emotional needs of passengers.

  • Treat all passengers with courtesy and respect.

  • Report any problems or concerns to a member of staff in a timely manner.

  1. Scheduling

  • It is advantageous to Livability to have advanced notice of driver availability, so that activities, appointments and outings can be planned. As such, the ability to provide the staff with details of availability for 3 weeks in advance is helpful.

  • Inform staff as quickly as possible if you are not able to attend a driving appointment so that it can be rearranged with minimal disruption to passengers.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Skills: /
  • Ability to communicate clearly with passengers, and to be able to listen carefully to their requirements.

  • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions related to journey arrangements and passenger information from staff.

Qualities: /
  • Generally in good health, with an ongoing level of fitness allowing you to continue driving.

  • Able to physically assist passengers and any equipment in and out of vehicles and premises.

  • Empathetic, outgoing and a good communicator.

Additional Requirements: /
  • Valid and current full Category B, C and/orD UK driving license, held for at least two years.

  • A declaration of any medical conditions that may affect your ability to drive now or in the future.

DBS (Formerly CRB) Check: /
  • Please note that a DBS check WILL be required for this role.

Training & Development: /
  • Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults training and MIDAS training will be provided. Manual Handling training will also be provided if you are required to lift wheelchairs.

DURATION AND TIME COMMITMENT
Being able to offer your services regularly for half or a full day on a weekly or fortnightly basis would make a huge difference to the ability of the residents to get out and about whilst simultaneously taking some of the pressure off staff.
