Transfer Center Directors Report:

A. UCLA TAP DATA – The data reflects the following admit rate over the past four years: For African American TAP students approx. 65%, Chicano TAP Student approx. 75%, Asian TAP Students approx. 80%, and White TAP students 90%. The majors with the lowest admittance are as follows: Nursing, Theater, Film & TV, Engineering – but data reflects either none or one applicant over the past four years. When reviewing the data for non-TAP students admit rate over the past four years only 20% of African American Students, Chicano Students at 20% with a rise to approx. 35% for 2015, Asian Students approx. 15 % with a rise in 2105 to just over 40%, and White Students approx. 35%. The major with the lowest admittance for Non-Tap applicants includes the following: Life and Physical Science, Engineering, Arts & Architecture, Theater, Film & TV, and Nursing.

There was discussion about exploring development of articulation with UCLA for the CEMA program here at WEST to increase the numbers of qualified applicants for the Theater, Film & TV major – invite Laura Peterson to a future meeting to discuss. Also invite Bahta to future meeting to discuss admit numbers in sciences.

B. Out-Of-State & In-State Private DATA – Review of the data for these reports reflect a decrease in the number of students from WEST transfer out-state and in-state private Institutions, particularly over the past three years – this is possibly a reflection of the increase in admission for UC & CSU.

C. TRANSFER MOTTO for 2015-16 (Results) – There was discussion about combining imagery and tag line: padlock w/a key – “Key to Success”, The Road to your Future Is Bright, Just a key with tagline “Unlock Your Future”. H Young will send out the final options via email for a vote.

D. General Report - Classroom Presentations have taken place in various and will continue for a few more weeks. Workshops are being conducted – mini 2 – 4 each week but low attendance. There was a hopes to having English Dept work with Transfer on Personal Statement workshops – but did not materialize this semester. H Young will resend flyers to faculty this week as a reminder. Currently H Young is reviewing for UC TAG submissions – 43 were submitted by students. There are HBCU Caravan Transfer Fairs happening across the state – locally at ECC – Compton center. Videos for Transfer are being developed for online students but will also be posted on the website. Reviewed the TC Plan – Objective/Activity page of the document to determine what had been accomplished. For fall 2014 all activities has been done with the exception of #4, 8, 9, and 14. The list for fall 2015 was provided to the committee for review - H. Young will be send out an evaluation of the TC Plan at the end of the semester to the committee members.

Articulation Report – Written Report provided to the committee by A. Martinez (see document)

There was a question by a committee member regarding the Stats for Psychology ???

SSS Report – No Report

ACT Report – Buck Stapleton – Coordinator

B. Stapleton reported that since ACT changed from PACE it has not been a true cohort based program…there is discussion about reverting back to the cohort format. Have been unable to get adjunct to attend meeting?? In addition – no counselor support for the program – badly needed. There is struggle with a structure interview process & participation in the cohort model. Narrow down the Pathways – reduced to 8. Direction of the Program Now:

  • Orientation
  • Narrow Focus
  • Increase Enrollment
  • Treat ACT as true Cohort
  • Counselor & Tutors
  • Speaker Series (Saturday)
  • Theme each semester (courses geared toward the theme)

It will be similar to the POPP structure. W Jones advised there an orientation this fall but just a few attended. Difficulties: use of online feature of ETUDES. Fall 2016 Goal??

One of the drawbacks is instructional staff (adjuncts) not attending on Saturdays

ADT Group Counseling Project – Marcela Hernandez

M. Hernandez reported that there are about 13 ADT majors for the group counseling which will include a CSEP. Session will include explaining the benefits of the Degree. May hold session with cross majors (all in one) – but will focus on freshman. It was suggested by a committee member to invite faculty members to attend these sessions. H Young stated that it will be important to track these students over time. M Hernandez stated that being sure students have correct sequence – students are coming for a specific ADT (also % bump). Start Date for project – none at this time – will advise when established. Should work with Expressways to identify the students – then students can sign-up immediately for the group counseling workshop. Have worked with Admissions & Record to identify students who have selected one with the ADT majors at time of application – there is approx. 100 of them.

Meeting adjourned at 2:35pm
