UPON THE ADMITTANCE AND SURRENDER

TO THE WILL OF PAUL VAILLANT

Hemel Hempstead the Special Court Baron of Thomas Halsey Esquire with the members Lord of the said Manor holden with...... for the said Manor on Saturday the first day of February in the sixth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the faith and so forth And in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Six Before William Ginger Gentleman Steward of the said Manor.

To this Court comes John Neville of the Middle Temple London Gentleman (only son and heir at law of Ann Neville late of Coxpond in the parish of Hemel Hempstead in the county of Hertford Widow (deceased) one of the Customary Tenants of the Manor aforesaid and in open Court Surrenders by the Rod into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the hands of William Ginger Gentleman Steward of the said Manor according to the custom thereof All that Messuage Tenement of farmhouse with the appurtenances formerly in the Tenure of John Bedford and now in the Tenure or Occupation of William Elkins or his Assigns situate standing and being at or near Coxpond in the said parish of Hemel Hempstead and County of Hertford and adjoining to a Messuage or Tenement of Joseph Camfield And also All that other Messuage or Tenement with the appurtenances formerly called Gunstons House and now or lately called Balcony House situate standing and being on Highstreet Green in the said parish of Hemel Hempstead now in the tenure of Thomas Parker And also All those five Cottages Tenements or Dwellings situate standing and being near together and one or more of them adjoining to the said Balcony House now in the several Tenures or Occupations of Thomas Hill John Partridge Richard Ball the elder and Thomas Foster And also All Outhouses Buildings Barns Stables Yards Gardens Orchards and Backsides to the said Messuages Cottages or Tenements or any of them belonging or in any wise appurtaining And also All that other Cottage or Tenement with the appurtenances situate standing and being in a Close of land called Lid Croft near bennetts End Lane wherein David Gravestock doth now Inhabit and dwell And also All those several Closes peeces and parcels or Arable land Meadow Pasture ground to the said Messuages Cottages or Tenements some or one of them belonging lying and being within the Manor and parish of Hemel Hempstead aforesaid formerly in the tenure of the said John Bedford and now in the Tenure or Occupation of the said William Elkins or his assigns hereafter particularly mentioned (that is to say) All that Close or parcel of land called the Mead Plot containing by estimation one acre (be the same more or less) And also All those two closes called Pear Tree Croft and Earls Wood containing together by estimation thirteen acres (be they more or less) And also all that Close called Tontis with the orchard thereunto adjoining containing together by estimation three acres (be they more or less) And also all those two Closes called Newmans Crofts otherwise Hither Greenfield and Further Greenfield containing together by estimation nine acres (be the same more or less) And all that Close called Dells otherwise Dellfield containing by estimation three acres (be the same more or less) and also all that Close called Lid Croft containing by estimation nine acres (be the same more or less) And also All.....the two Closes called Homefield containing together by estimation eleven acres (be the same more or less) And also All that Pightle and t...... es (? 1
two acres) of land called Reddings containing together by estimation...... e acres (?1,3,5,12,21 23, 25 etc.)(be the same more or less) And also all that Close called Homefield otherwise Robins Croft containing by estimation three acres (be the same more or less) And also All that Close called Longill Aldwicke otherwise....dwicks containing by estimation seven acres (be the same more or less) And also All that Close called Lower Reddings otherwise Newfield containing by estimation five acres (more or less) And also All that one close called Goulds croft containing by estimation eight acres (be the same more or less) And also All that Close called Middlefield containing by estimation five acres(be the same more or less) One close called the Balcony Pightle lately two Closes containing by estimation two acres and a half ( be the same more or less) And also one Meadow adjoining to a Close called Marklis containing by estimation two acres (more or less) or howsoever otherwise the said Close peeces and parcels of arable land Meadow and Pasture ground are called known or described together with all Trees Wood Underwood and Springs of Wood Hedges Ditches Fences Mounds Ways Passages Waters Ponds Watercourses Easements Commons Profits Priviledges Advantages and Appertenances whatsoever to the said premises belonging or in anywise appurtaining And All the Estate right Title and Interest of him the said John Neville of into and out of the same premises And also all other the Lands and Tenements of him the said John Neville situate lying and being within the said Manor with their and every of their appurtenances which are now int he Tenure or Occupation of the said William Elkins his assigns and Undertenants and whereunto he the said John Neville was sometime since Admitted upon the surrender of Robert Stoop and Also All other the Copyhold Lands and Tenements of him whatsoever of him the said John Neville situate lying and being within the said Manor with their and every of their appurtenances To the use and behoof of Paul Vaillant of the Strand in the Parish of St. Clements Dane in the County of Middlesex Esquire his heires and assigns for ever Which said Paul Vaillant being present here in court desires of the Lord of the said Manor by his Steward aforesaid Grants Seisin thereof by the rod To have and to hold all and singular the premises aforesaid with their appurtenances unto the said Paul Vaillant his heirs and Assigns for ever of the Lord of the said Manor by the rod at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the Manor aforesaid by fealty suit of Court and yearly rent of One Pound thirteen shillings and two pence and other Services therefore due and by right accustomed And the said Paul Vaillant is Admitted thereof Tenant And gives the Lord for a fine for such his Estate so to be had Sixteen shillings and seven pence But his fealty is respited.

And Immediately afterwards the said Paul Vaillant in open Court Surrenders by the rod into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the hands of William Ginger Gentleman Steward of the said Manor according to the custom thereof All and singular the Customary Messuages Cottages Lands Tenements Woodground and Hereditaments whatsoever of him the said Paul Vaillant situate lying and being within the said Manor with their and every of their appertenances To the use and behoof of such Person and Persons and to and for such Estate and Estates New Intents and Purposes as he the said Paul Vaillant shall and by his last Will and Testament in writing already made or hereafter to be made Give Devised Limit Director or Appoint.
