    A new guidance document has been put together which covers:

Safety and Security

  • Stay Safe Personal Security

The aim of the course is to provide basic security preparation for those personnel travelling or being deployed to the field. Although Red Cross Red Crescent specific, this course contains security information that will be beneficial for all humanitarian workers. (Time required approximately 4 hours)

  • Basic Security in the Field – United Nations Department of Safety & Security


As well as introducing security material of a general nature, this package focuses on the UN approach to security issues and provides comprehensive information on the UN Security System as it operates around the world. (Time required approximately 4-5 hours).

  • Prevention of and response to sexual exploitation and abuse

The humanitarian policy briefs (HPBs) are short, user-friendly summaries designed to inform staff on CARE International’s position on priority humanitarian topics, particularly when representing CARE International in advocacy activities and/or interagency coordination meetings. HPBs have been developed for overarching themes (accountability, humanitarian space, etc.), ‘focus’ areas of humanitarian specialisation (food security, WASH, shelter, logistics), and priority ‘cross-cutting’ themes (climate change, gender, etc.)

Introduction to CARE

The course takes approximately 2 hours to complete and is relevant to all CARE staff. It is strongly recommended for program staff. The course is available in English, French and Spanish.

WASH

  • Technical Project Management (TPM) in WASH emergencies

Planning, resourcing, and implementing a technical WASH engineering project. This course introduces and familiarises staff with standard project management stages and tools in a creative, practical and innovative way. It covers areas such as logistics processes, risk management and quality control.

  • Information, Education and Communication (IEC) in WASH emergencies

Examines health and hygiene promotion to strengthen WASH programme design and implementation. It helps the learner practise critical reflection throughout a simulated project, with reference to the context they are working in, the population affected by the crisis, and the decisions to be made.

  • 1.5 Handout, CARE’s core sectors

Document covering 3 of CARE’s 4 core sectors. For WASH this document covers:

  • Scale, selection of work areas, highest priority interventions, second priority interventions, and WASH cluster resources.
