THE WESTIN PHOENIX DOWNTOWN APPOINTS NEW EXECUTIVE CHEF

Chef Marco Garcia Brings 12-Years of Culinary Experience in Hotels and Resorts

PHOENIX – (June 16, 2016) –The Westin Phoenix Downtown Hotel is pleased to announce the appointment of Chef Marco Garcia as its new executive chef. A culinary veteran, he brings more than a decade of hospitality experience to the 242-room hotel and its signature restaurant, Province Urban Kitchen and Bar.

“Chef Marco comes aboard at a most opportune time, as we embark on a major renovation of our restaurant,” said John Ford, general manager for The Westin Phoenix Downtown. “The substantial improvements we are making to the restaurant will be further enhanced by the Chef’s enthusiasm and creativity in the kitchen.”

In his role as executive chef, Chef Marco will lead all culinary endeavors, directing day-to-day operation of Province Urban Kitchen and Bar, banquets, in-room dining and stewarding. Further, he will develop and execute inspired new recipes and menus befitting the Westin Hotel brand. Chef Marco will also train and manage the culinary team, a longtime passion for the chef.

“I’m a hands on leader, said Chef Marco. “It’s important to me to stand side by side with the culinary team, teaching and mentoring them. Cooking is just one component to being a chef. My goal is to be someone who helps develop new chefs.”

Prior to joining The Westin Phoenix Downtown, he spent more than 12 years with Marriott International Inc. Beginning first with a position as a prep cook for JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa, then as a kitchen supervisor for the banquets supervisor. Chef Marco eventually moved to Renaissance Phoenix Downtown, where he spent nearly 5 years as its executive sous chef.

While at the Renaissance, Chef Marco developed a passion for sustainably raised and farmed foods. He cultivated relationships with local vendors and plans to bring them and his environmentally friendly practices to the hotel and its signature restaurant, Province. “For the Westin, my hope is to create menus featuring local, regional foods and flavors that are pleasing to the environment, to the eye and to the palate,” said Chef Marco.
