MINUTES OF THE APRIL 21, 2014 MEETING

Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham called the meeting to order at 7:03 P.M.

MEMBER’S PRESENT: Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham, Chairman, Sue Cannon, Douglas Hamilton, Roger Nelson, and Frances Urbank.

ALSO PRESENT: Ann Marie Claffey, Director.

ABSENT: William Hamel, Edward Lanati, Barbara Sullivan, and John Sullivan.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Upon a motion by Frances Urbank, and seconded by Sue Cannon the March 17, 2014 minutes were approved. Roger Nelson and Douglas Hamilton abstained.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Treasurer’s Report provided by the Finance Dept. Discussion followed on account financial information as of March 4, 2014. Sue Cannon made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report as provided by the Finance Dept., seconded by Francis Urbank; the motion was approved. Roger Nelson made a motion to accept the February and March CONA Financial Reports as provided by the Finance Dept., seconded by Frances Urbank, the motion was approved.

PUBLIC INPUT: N/A.

BUS COORDINATOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the February and March 2014 reports. Discussion followed on ridership, trips, and driver’s hours. Sue Cannon made a motion to accept the February and March 2014 reports, seconded by Roger Nelson, the reports were approved.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Director’s Report.

Ø  Programs and Upcoming events: AARP Safe Drive 4?28, Volunteer Appreciation Lunch 4/23, Probate Program 4/29, Nutrition Class 4/30, Scrapbooking/youth services 4/30, Travel Show 5/14, Mother Day Brunch 5/14, Youth Service Family Bingo 5/16, USS Nautilus-Memorial Day Tribute 5/22 New London. Locks Fitness Center had approximately 254 visits for March.

Ø  Chartered Trips include: West Pointe Dress Parade, Niagara Falls & Finger Lakes, Moses @ Millennium Theater, Lady Bea Cruise, Martha’s’ Vineyard, Block Island Breeze, Cape Cod Jazz Cruise, 7 Day Myrtle Beach Charleston South Carolina, Vine to Wine in Vermont, Cranberries Chowder & Wine, Yaakov @ Foxwoods, Pumpkin Festival– Keene, NH, It’s All About The 50’s At Azzurra Italian Restaurant, Goodspeed Opera House, Texas Tenors Christmas @ Foxwoods, 911 Memorial & Museum, and Saratoga Street Walk. Also Foxwoods and Mohegan. Center Bus Trip: Hobby Lobby Ingleside & Red Robin.

Ø  Bus purchase-paperwork needs to be completed, and is due in May 2014.

Ø  Housing Team/Parking @ Senior Center. Ann Marie Claffey presented a valet parking proposal to the CONA Board. Jennifer Rodriguez from Planning and Zoning has applied for an Inclusionary Housing Home CT Planning Grant. The town is required to form a team. She is proposing to use a valet service for morning and lunch programs, and bingo. Douglas Hamilton suggested a 60 day trial period. Roger Nelson suggested notifying the Board of Selectman. Discussion to continue on driver hours, shelter, schedule, and publicity of service. Sue Cannon made a motion for Ann Marie Claffey and Lori Lapointe to put together a package of hours and feasibility of a valet program; seconded by Roger Nelson, the motion was approved.

COMMITTEE REPORT AND ACTIONS:

a)  Transportation Committee. Will meet next month.

b)  Community Outreach Committee: No Report.

MUNICIPAL AGENT REPORT: N/A.

OLD BUSINESS:

a)  Coffin Trust. Nothing new to report.

b)  Update Parking Sub Committee Report. Douglas Hamilton reported the three houses next to the senior center have been sold.

c)  Updates Policies and Procedures. N/A.

NEW BUSINESS:

N/A.

ADJOURNMENT:

Upon a motion by Roger Nelson and seconded by Frances Urbank the meeting adjourned at 8:13 P.M.
