Job Description:

Full-time position responsible for providing professional and technical planning services related to land use development. Duties include, but are not limited to:

·  Processes all development submissions including rezones, primary plats, development plans, variances, sign applications and Improvement Location Permits (ILP’s).

·  Writes staff reports analyzing development requests for Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA).

·  Attends special meetings such as Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and Design Review Committee (DRC) as needed.

·  Presents staff reports to Plan Commission, BZA and Town Council as needed.

·  Tracks all submissions in data base.

·  Creates agendas for Plan Commission and BZA.

·  Provides customer service by answering questions from public regarding Zoning Ordinance, Zoning Map, development requests and Comprehensive Plan.

·  Reviews development plans and ILP’s.

·  Participates in Comprehensive Plan Updates and Zoning Ordinance amendments.

·  Performs special studies and research as required.

·  Provides technical assistance for GIS and updating Zoning Map.

·  Archives documents.

This professional must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as an ability to work well with the public. Applicant must be able to read maps, site plans and some knowledge of Landscape Architecture preferred. Applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Works applications including Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint and a working knowledge of GIS Arcview.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field from an accredited university with major course work in planning; experience in municipal planning work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 1-3 years.
