General Accountability:

The Summer Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning and implementation of the Summer SunSations Day Camp program.

This position will work closely and collaboratively with the appointed Community Programmer to strategically align the youth programming services provided; strategic programming direction may be provided by the Supervisor.

Specific Duties:

  • Plan and implement a fun and safe summer day camp program.
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate summer staff and volunteers.
  • Provide ongoing leadership and training to staff and volunteers.
  • Work within a given budget.
  • Research and coordinate weekly field trips and transportation.
  • Develop and implement a pre-summer staff training week in collaboration with the Recreation Administration & Programming Supervisor.
  • Promote and market the summer program as well as other Community Services Department programs.
  • Review and implement policies and procedures pertaining to the program
  • Effectively schedule staff and volunteers to maximize the efficient delivery of the summer program.
  • Provide support and coverage for summer staff.
  • Provide verbal and written reports and evaluations to supervisor.
  • Efficiently utilize the electronic registration program.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Annual Canada Day Celebrations.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service to all patrons.
  • To act as a positive role model to program participants.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age
  • Standard First Aid, CPR Level C/AED
  • High Five® Principals of Healthy Childhood Development Certification (training will be provided June 16 in High River)
  • Physical Literacy Certification (training will be provided June 1 at U of C)
  • High Five® Quest 2 Evaluation (training provided TBA)
  • Strong organizational, leadership and supervisory skills are a must
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Computer Skills – MS Office
  • Requires an outstanding imagination and a love of working with children
  • Must possess a valid Alberta Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Preference will be give to those with education and/or experience in Recreation, Education and/or Childcare
