Job Description

Road Crewman

Overview

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Cable Town road supervisor and road foreman. Employee is responsible for road maintenance and construction, equipment maintenance, and town property maintenance. Employee is exposed to inclement weather and potential safety hazards from the machines and equipment used. Work is reviewed through feedback from citizens, for completeness through meetings, and adherence to Town policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

·  Be at least eighteen years old, and have graduated from high school (or GED); or any equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience.

·  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, other employees, and the general public.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY

·  Possession of a valid Class A Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake endorsement in good standing.

Physical and Environmental Standards:

·  Regular periods spent outside subject to weather conditions.

·  Frequent walking, standing, climbing; occasional requirement for sustained uncomfortable physical positions.

·  Occasional heavy lifting in excess of 50 pounds is required for equipment maintenance and other duties.

·  Some exposure to high noise, exhaust fumes and vibration levels from heavy equipment.

General Duties

·  Perform labor and operate machinery, hand tools, and power tools necessary for road maintenance and construction, equipment maintenance, and town property maintenance.

·  Implement warning signage and safety lighting for all construction and maintenance operations.

·  Perform general equipment maintenance and tool repair as needed.

·  Fill out individual time sheets at the end of each work day.

·  Participate in training as deemed necessary by Road Supervisor/Town Board.

·  Ensure compliance with applicable town, state and federal health and safety rules and regulations.

·  Participate in miscellaneous duties as requested by Road Supervisor and Town Board.

·  Specific duties and responsibilities as follows:

Town Garage and Grounds

·  Maintain and repair interior, exterior, and contents of buildings.

·  Clean work areas, office area, and grounds as needed.

·  Mow and trim grounds as needed.

Gravel Pit

·  Maintain and reclaim as warranted.

Recycling Center

·  Grade and snow plow as necessary.

·  Maintain building as necessary.

·  Clean and organize as necessary.

Boat landings

·  Maintain boat launch access and approaches.

·  Perform seasonal installation and removal of docks.

·  Repair and upkeep of docks and decking.

·  Maintain proper informational and safety signage.

Equipment maintenance

·  Clean and repair machinery and trucks as needed.

·  Repair and service logs maintained for each unit.

·  Check fluid level and lighting daily.

·  Report equipment faults and safety hazards to Foreman and Road Supervisor.

Road Maintenance

·  Patch and repair asphalt as needed.

·  Grade and maintain gravel roads as needed.

·  Perform culvert inspection, cleaning, and maintenance as needed.

·  Perform bridge maintenance, repair, and inspection compliance as needed.

·  Complete road sign installations and repairs as needed.

·  Perform tree and hazard removal/cleanup as needed.

·  Perform Right-of-way brushing as requested.

·  Perform Right-of-way mowing as requested.

·  Sweep roads and intersections as requested.

Road Construction

·  Apply road specifications to all new construction.

·  Perform sub-base and base construction, elevations, and slopes in accordance with training guidelines and/or engineering plans.

Winter Road Maintenance

·  Plow town roads, properties, and parking lots as needed.

·  Perform sanding and ice removal on town roads as needed.

ADA COMPLIANCE

PHYSICAL ABILITY: Strength and agility sufficient to lift and maneuver heavy objects, heavy tools and equipment; to climb into and operate large equipment, trucks; and to walk over rugged terrain, etc. Ability to withstand working outside in all extreme weather conditions.

VISUAL ABILITY: Ability sufficient to operate heavy equipment and trucks by day and night; to observe unsafe conditions of roadways; and to read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc.

OTHER: Freedom from mental disorders that would interfere with the performance of duties described.
