TITLE:

EMPLOYEE SERVICE AND RETIREMENT RECOGNITION

POLICY STATEMENT:

The Town of Brooks values the contribution made by its employees and believes in formally recognizing those contributions.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS POLICY IS TO:

  • Establish a procedure for consistently recognizing significant employment anniversaries and employee retirements.

TITLE:

EMPLOYEE SERVICE AND RETIREMENT RECOGNITION

PROCEDURE:

  • The appropriate Director and/or Divisional Manager will, with the assistance of the Executive Secretary, guide all arrangements made pursuant to this policy to ensure that the intent of the policy is achieved.

Recognition of Significant Employment Anniversaries:

  • This policy applies to all permanent full time employees, volunteer firemen and permanent part-time employees that work 18 hours or more per week on an ongoing basis.
  • For purposes of this policy, significant employment anniversaries are defined as the 1st and 5th employment anniversaries and thereafter every 5th employment anniversary i.e. 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, etc. years of service;
  • The achievement of each employee’s significant employment anniversary will be celebrated at the Town’s Annual Christmas Volunteer Recognition evening following the date upon which the employee achieves the significant anniversary;
  • Each such employee will be presented by the Mayor (or the Mayor’s designate) with a token of Council’s appreciation according to the following schedule:

TITLE:

EMPLOYEE SERVICE AND RETIREMENT RECOGNITION

Retirement Recognition:

  • The retirement recognition section of this policy will apply when an employee who has completed 5 or more years of service with the Town voluntarily resigns from employment with the Town for the purpose of entering into the retirement phase of the employee’s life. Except as otherwise determined by council, a qualifying employee will have no intention of seeking full time or nearly full time employment with any other employer or in a private business pursuit. As a general rule, eligible retirements will not normally occur when an employee is less than 55 years of age.
  • The past service contribution of every retiring employee to whom this policy applies will be recognized as follows:
  • a retirement celebration, as deemed appropriate by the employee’s immediate management supervisor will be organized by that supervisor;
  • the Town will contribute up to $400.00 to offset the costs associated with staging the celebration event;
  • the Town will recognize the past service contribution of the retiring employee by presenting the employee with a retirement gift according to the following schedule:

minimum gift value of $150.00 in recognition of the retiring employee’s years of service between 5 and 10 years of service, plus an additional contribution of $100.00 for each 10 years (or portion of 10 years) of service thereafter:

5 to 9.9 years of service

20 to 29.9 years of service / $350.00
30 to 39.9 years of service / $450.00
40 plus years of service / $550.00
