REGISTRARS REPORT

Monday, March 5th at 5 PM was the last day to accept nomination papers from candidates for the Annual Town Election.

Tuesday, April 3rd, a Voter Registration session was held in the Town Clerk’s office from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM to register new voters for the Annual Town Election held April 23rd from 12:00-7:30 PM.

Friday, April 13th was the last day to register to vote at the Special and Annual Town Meetings held Saturday May 5th. Voter registration was held in the Town Clerk’s office from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Wednesday, November 7th was the last day to register to vote for the Special Town Meeting held November 17th .A voter registration session was held in the Town Clerk’s office from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Please note that records of births and deaths will no longer be published in the Ashby Annual Town Report.

RECORDING BIRTHS

Some of the reasons why births should be recorded:

To establish identity .To establish nationality. To prove legitimacy.

To show when a child has a right to enter school.

To show when a child has a right to seek employment under the Child Labor Law.

To establish the right of inheritance of property,

To establish liability to military duty, as well as exemption therefrom.

To establish the right to vote.

To qualify to hold title to and buy and sell real estate.

To establish the right to hold public office.

To prove the age at which the marriage contract may be entered into.

To make statistical study of the health condition.

Errors can only be corrected by a sworn affidavit as prescribed by Massachusetts’ law, and may cause you inconvenience which can be avoided by your prompt attention.

MARRIAGE LAWS

The Town Clerk hereby gives notice that she is prepared to furnish parents, householders, physicians, and registered hospital officers applying therefore, with blanks for return of births as required by law; also death and medical certificates, which are required for premarital medical examination.
