Tournament Rules and Procedures

  1. All games will be played under USA Hockey rules and as modified under SDAHA Playing Rules and YAIA Tournament Director
  2. All games will be played at Kiwanis Ice Arena
  3. Tournament will be played during designated weekend, games will not carry over into additional days.
  4. Participants and Matchups will be determined by the YAIA Tournament Director
  5. Each team will have a representative to the arena at least 1 hour before the start of their 1st game to provide the YAIA Tournament Director with the following documentation:
  6. Official team registration
  7. Official team roster
  8. Signed by each team member
  9. Approved by USA Hockey registrar
  10. Maximum 20 players per roster
  11. All players are to be dressed and ready to play 15 minutes before game start time. Games may start early if possible.
  12. Each player must wear HECC approved helmets with face guards strapped properly and fastened and have colored mouth guards in place while on the ice.
  13. No more than 4 coaches allowed on the bench during a game
  14. All games will be officiated by USA Hockey registered referees
  15. All decisions by the referees are final, no protests are allowed. The YAIA tournament director and/or associate director will have the final authority in all disputes.
  16. Absolutely no fighting will be tolerated. Any player ejected for fighting is disqualified for the entire tournament
  17. Any spectator yelling obscenities at the players, referees, and/or coaches will be removed from the arena for the remainder of the tournament.
  18. First team listed on game matches is the Home team, Home team wears light jersey color.

  21. 17 minute periods with Zamboni between each period
  22. Zamboni after game completion
  23. Bantam and Pee Wee
  24. 15 minute periods with Zamboni between 2nd and 3rd period, 5 minute break between 1st and 2nd periods
  25. Zamboni after game completion
  26. Squirts
  27. 15 minute run-time periods, 2 minute break between periods
  28. Zamboni after game completion
  29. Mites
  30. Two 14 minute run-time periods, clock will be stop every 2 minutes to switch players, 2 minute break between periods
  31. Zamboni after game completion
  32. Bracketed Tournament format
  33. Team seeds determined by tournament director
  34. Tournament game regular time tie
  35. 5 minute break before overtime
  36. 5 minute, “sudden death”, run time
  37. 1 minute break between overtime periods
  38. 5 minute, “sudden death”, run time
  39. Repeat items iii and iv until goal scored
  40. Ice will not be conditioned between overtime periods unless directed by referees
  41. Championship game, regular time tie
  42. Use same overtime rules as tournament game regular time tie
