CTHRC Gets Funding for Tourism Resource Development & Training

A United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/ Caribbean Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) Project

In June 2001, the Caribbean Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) was the recipient of a grant of US$99,500 from the Japanese Government, funded through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This grant supports a CTHRC/CTO educational project entitled “Tourism Resource Development and Training”.

The contribution is being used in the development and production of tourism resource materials for primary and secondary schools and deliver teacher-training workshops to introduce the materials throughout the English-speaking Caribbean. All resource materials developed will be available in three languages, English, Spanish and French.

The objectives of this project are as follows:

  • To provide comprehensive resource materials on tourism in the Caribbean that will facilitate the standardization of the teaching of the subject at both the primary and secondary level of the education system throughout the region
  • To update the teachers’ knowledge of the subject of tourism through teacher-training workshops for both primary and secondary school teachers
  • To begin the process of strengthening the education and training component of human resources development for the tourism sector by providing materials that will enable teachers to impart to students the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for the development and sustainability of tourism in the Caribbean

There are four (4) specific outputs of this project:

  1. A Resource Manual in Tourism for Secondary School Teachers printed in English, Spanish and French
  1. Training Modules in Tourism for Primary Schools and Secondary School Students Ages 12-14, printed in English, Spanish and French
