A JOINT RESOLUTION naming the "Officer Jason Cammack Memorial Highway" in Franklin County.
Son, Husband, Father, Officer, Friend......
With deepest respect and admiration we pay solemn tribute and honor to our departed hero, Officer Jason Cammack, the first Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement officer killed in the line of duty, and pause in silent reverence for his soul.
WHEREAS, Jason Cammack, a native of Frankfort, was the son of Gayle and Kela Cammack; and
WHEREAS, after graduation from Frankfort High School and attending the University of Kentucky, Jason Cammack fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a law enforcement officer when he joined Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement; and
WHEREAS, Jason Cammack showed early promise from the start of his training as a KVE officer, having been elected Adjutant of Class 277 of the Department of Criminal Justice Basic Training; and
WHEREAS, the dedication, focus, and excellence exhibited by Jason Cammack during basic training continued during his career on the road, where he kept the highways of this Commonwealth safe for the motoring public through the enforcement of commercial vehicle safety laws; and
WHEREAS, on April 23, 2000, Easter Sunday, Jason Cammack was on routine patrol on Interstate 64 eastbound in Woodford County when he crossed the median and accelerated into the westbound lane in an attempt to stop a speeding vehicle; and
WHEREAS, Officer Cammack lost control of the vehicle, struck a rock embankment, and died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash; and
WHEREAS, Officer Jason Cammack was the first KVE officer killed in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, Jason Cammack was survived by his widow, Christa; one son, Hayden; his parents; a brother, Gayle Cammack; and a sister, Jennifer Yancey; and
WHEREAS, Jason Cammack is fondly remembered and sorely missed by his entire family, his brothers in the KVE, and all his many friends; and
WHEREAS, the passing of Jason Cammack has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Jason Cammack is owed a debt for his service and sacrifice that the Commonwealth can never repay, but can recognize through a tangible symbol, however inadequate it might be;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The members of the General Assembly, both individually and collectively, express their profound sense of sorrow over the death of Officer Jason Cammack, and their admiration for his dedicated service to the Commonwealth.
Section 2. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate United State Route 60 in Franklin County from the Woodford County line to the intersection with United States Route 460 the "Officer Jason Cammack Memorial Highway."
Section 3. The Transportation Cabinet shall, within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect signs naming the "Officer Jason Cammack Memorial Highway" at both ends of the route identified in Section 2 of this Resolution.
Section 4. The Transportation Cabinet shall include on the signs described in Section 3 of the Resolution an indication that Officer Cammack was the first KVE officer killed in the line of duty.
Section 5. Upon enactment of this Resolution, the Clerk of the House of Representatives shall forward a copy of this Resolution to Mr. and Mrs. Gayle Cammack, 211 Noel Avenue, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601; and Mrs. Christa Hockensmith, 1128 Kiowa Trail, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601.
