AP Euro (EHAP) is a challenging course designed to teach students relevant and factual knowledge about Europe’s impact on global history from about 1400 through the present while preparing students for the AP European History Exam next May, and simultaneously meeting the California State standards for 10th grade World History. In addition to providing basic exposure to the historical narrative the course goals include development of
(1) an understanding of the principal themes of modern global history,
(2) the ability to analyze historical evidence, and
(3) the ability to express that understanding and analysis effectively.

This is a difficult course and is intended for the highly-motivated student who wishes to earn college credit by preparing for the AP Exam.

Assessments:

Student grades will be based upon tests, quizzes, in-class assignments, homework, projects and class participation. 65% of the over-all grade will be exams/quizzes/”exam essays”.

Participation is an essential element of this class. I expect every student to come to class on time, not to be disruptive and to follow the class rules.

Make-Up Work/Late Work/Extra Credit:

NO late work will be accepted after one week after the due date unless the student is out for an extended time period.

Extra credit is occasionally provided from time to time as opportunities arise. Do not rely on extra credit for a grade boost.

Make-Up Tests: Test dates will be posted at least one week ahead of the test date. If a student is absent for the class before a test, the student is still required to take the test on the scheduled test day if present on the day of the test.

Make-up tests are often not the same tests that were given on the original test date and will be held in the testing center only.

Grading Policy:

Class grades will be based upon a point system. Each assignment will be given a point value. Grade points are weighted in the following manner:
Exams, Quizzes, “Exam” essays: 65%

Homework, Projects, Assignments: 35%

The grading scale will be:

89.5- 100% of point value = A

79.5- 89.4% of point value = B

69.5 -79.4% of point value = C

59- 69.4% of point value = D

0- 58.9% of point value = F

Communications:

Messages for the teacher can be made by email. I will regularly post class grades on Aeries and class information on harleypvhs.com. My classroom voicemail isn’t operational.

Email: harleyl@ pvpusd.net

Web site: harleypvhs.com

Student Responsibilities:

Students are responsible for all quizzes, tests and assignments that are assigned. Grades will be regularly posted on AERIES and it is the student’s responsibility to check for missing assignments/tests. Students are expected to show proper respect toward classmates, teachers and all property. No cell phone use in class, except for “Kahoot” reviews. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

1. Be on time. Excessive tardiness will lower the student’s over-all grade.

2. Stay in the classroom. Students must use the hall pass.

3. Be Polite/Show Respect. Don’t disturb the class in any way by excessive talking, use of profanity, cell phones, playing cards, making a mess, etc.

4. Cheating will not be tolerated! Cell phones must be put away during testing.

Failure to follow class rules may result in a “U” in citizenship, NEGATIVE participation points and/or removal from the course.

AP Exam Requirement:

Students are expected to take the AP European History exam in mid-May. The exam costs $100.
