Role Description

Service / Cymru Projects(Taith OAE)
Role Title / Receptionist and Drop-in Centre Advocate.
Hours / Minimum of 4 hours per week
Managed and supported by / Recovery Worker
Purpose of Job / To provide a warm welcome as the first point of contact to all service users and visitors via the drop-in centre and by phone. To be able to provide advice and information, take referrals and support staff in administration and upkeep of reception and drop in areas.
Location / Vale of Glamorgan.

Key Activities:

  • As first point of contact within the service, ensure all visitors receive a friendly and efficient service and that all calls and visits are dealt with promptly and courteously.
  • Contribute to the improvement and upkeep of all client areas, taking responsibility for the reporting of damage to management and other relevant personnel.
  • Ensure all client information displayed in the waiting room area is current and relevant, keeping the wall space tidy and maintaining sufficient stock of harm reduction leaflets and information.
  • Support the team in the maintenance of recording and database systems, photocopying and general administrative tasks.
  • Taking phone calls, answering queries, taking referrals, provide harm reduction advise and to be able to signpost as appropriate.
  • Provide general information and signpost to other organisations as and when is needed
  • Attend events as a CRI representative, feeding back to the team.
  • To carry out any other duties as and when required by the team.
  • Support facilitation of drop-in programmes.

General terms of reference:

In carrying out the above duties the post holder will

  • Work flexibly across operational sites as required.
  • Work flexibly within an agreed number of hours of work to maintain the most appropriate level of service provision this may include working evenings and weekends.
  • Seek to improve personal performance, contribution, knowledge and skills.
  • Participate in appraisal, training and supervision processes.
  • Keep abreast of developments in services, legislation and practice relevant to the client group
  • Ensure the implementation of all CRI policies.
  • Contribute to maintaining safe systems of work and a safe environment
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade of the post.

Person Specific.

Essential criteria:

Basic understanding of substance misuse issues (this can be developed through training)

Basic computer and keyboard skills (this can be developed through training)

Good interpersonal skills and a willingness to work flexibly as part of a team.

Maintaining professional boundaries and effective working within Substance Misuse services.

Good organisational skills.

Dependable and reliable

And the ability to:

Communicate confidently and effectively, verbally and in writing.

Respond flexibly to the demands of the post.

Work as a member of a team.

Show a capacity to work alone and the ability to keep calm under pressure.

Employ an empathetic and non-judgmental attitude towards service users.

Demonstrate a commitment to own ongoing professional development

Desirable criteria:

Previous experience of administrative work

Understanding of the issues facing substance misusers

Knowledge of local services and geography

Recruitment Procedure:

Application form, interview and two references and DBS clearance.

Followed by 6 weeks training, one day per week.
