Torquay PHAB Mentor/Volunteer contract

  • Be aware of safety of young people/self above all else.
  • Phone leader ASAP if unable to attend. (Do not pass messages)
  • Be a positive role model to all young people. Take part in activities.
  • Good time keeping - Let club know if running late if possible.
  • Communicate concerns - Do not hold on to them.
  • Disclosures can be kept confidential within the Phab team initially, but not by anyone individual. know one should keep disclosures to themselves, all disclosures must be passed on to Phab leaders who will have the final decision to pass on if risk of harm.

3 Torbay safe guarding (Social Services)

(Call the Police if serious immediate concerns / Make sure young person is safe).

  • Use disabled toilets - Do not use children’s toilets.
  • Intimate care should only to be given in pairs.
  • Care should be taken around physical contact - Avoid if on own with child.
  • Avoid becoming isolated with young people - Ask team member to help.
  • Sign in at door and be aware of fire drill
  • Use accident and incident books to record (You sign & young person and Date & time)
  • Do not give out your contact details including Facebook to young people under 18 years old.
  • Always look to include all. Adapt activities when possible to help with this.
  • Contribute to planning of program
  • Do best to attend training

p2. Specific to paid staff to include p.1

  • Lead activities.
  • Help Mentors to lead activities
  • Be aware of all around you.
  • Take the lead in situation of challenge. Do not leave to Mentors.
  • Attend staff training.
  • Seek clarity on specific situation - see policies, ask questions to confirm actions.
  • Be responsible for equipment and premises.
  • Challenge any strangers entering club, or get help.
  • Help in keeping parents dropping off and picking up in foyer only - No parent is allowed to go into club other than thought who have arranged to do so.
  • Identify positive achievements by young people - Praise and make a note for club record.

Specific to Club leader Monday and Wednesday Nights

  • Manage staff and Mentors - Ensuring ratio for running club are sufficient
  • Develop and oversee programs
  • Run and organise training
  • Oversee club policies and procedures
  • Oversee club finances and seek out funding and complete funding reports
  • Conduct fire drills on a regular basis and take lead
  • Liaise with parents/carers and organisations; Care homes/social services
  • Open and lock up club ensuring all equipment fit for purpose.
  • Oversee Phab committee Adult and young person
  • Oversee website
  • Lead responsibility around referring on safe guarding concerns
  • Oversee DBS checks
  • Recruit Members, Staff, Mentors and Committee members.
  • Handle club funds and budgets in conjunction with treasurer
