Meet some of the World’s most famous, influential and ground-breaking painters, sculptors, architects and designers. Be inspired by their work to create your own original compositionsusing their inspirations, styles and techniques to create your own pieces of art and design.

  • Learn about great artists, architects and designers in history.
  • Create sketchbooks to record observations.

Use a broadening vocabulary to express both good and not so good feelings. / Explore painted portraits by Frida Kahlo and their relationship to her emotional world; urban landscapes by L. S. Lowry and their relationship to society and emotion; and abstraction by Joan Miró and its relationship to ideas and emotions. Learn about paint handling and techniques and use those skills to create works in the styles of those artists.

Sculptors

  • Improve mastery of sculpture techniques with a range of materials.
  • Learn about great artists in history.

/ Explore the sculpture of Joan Miróand Barbara Hepworth. Learn about their sculptural styles, influences and techniques. Create your own sculptures under their influence.

Architects
[2 sessions] / PSHE, Mathematics,GeographyandD&T
  • Develop techniques, including control and use of materials, with creativity, experimentation and an increasing awareness of different kinds of design.
  • Improve mastery of drawing techniques.
  • Learn about great architects in history.
  • Find the area of rectilinear shapes by counting squares.
  • Locate the world’s countries, using maps, concentrating on key physical and human characteristics, countries, and major cities.
  • Use research and develop design criteria to inform the design of innovative, functional, appealing products that are fit for purpose, aimed at particular individuals or groups.
  • Generate, develop and communicate their ideas through discussion, annotated sketches and cross-sectional diagrams.
  • Evaluate their ideas and products against their own design criteria and consider the views of others to improve their work.
Understand how key events and individuals in design and technology have helped shape the world. / Explore the building designs of Norman Foster and the partnership between Robert Venturiand Denise Scott-Brown, identifying styles and influences. Sketch elevations of buildings and design an office building and a school building. Work out areas of rooms using accurate measuring.
Block D
Designers
[8 sessions - TBC] / Explore the designs and motifs of a number of designers. Practice design techniques, including symmetry, and design a wallpaper pattern, a chair, a vase and a jacket under their inspiration (TBC).
