Dear leaders and members,
It is HOT!!!! Hope you all are keeping cool, and moving to the music!!. If I have not been to your chapter yet I am on my way. Hope you are drinking lots of water, your body needs it. Listen to your body and don’t get over heated, it is easy to stay to long in the yard. So do your water and vegetable gathering early mornings.
Keep your body tuned up with all the fresh fruit and vegetables that are so abundant this time of year. I passed by RushSprings on my way to Duncan, I seen some mighty fine watermelons at the stands. They were already closed on my way home. But I know they sell them from pickup trucks on several corners around Oklahoma City. Also we have a wonderful Farmers Market on Reno and Kline in Oklahoma City. It has been there since the turn of the century. Fresh is best when it comes to fuel for our bodies, try fresh fruit instead of French fries for a change.
International Recognition Days in Chicago was fabulous. We had one speaker named Nick Yphantides, M.D., who lost 270 pounds. Guess how he did it, you guessed diet and exercise. He has a book out called my Big Fat Greek Diet. His book is very real he covers what he calls the 7 pillars of weight loss and maintenance. And number one is get a plan and follow it. And he also says life style change not a diet, this is a way of life, you don’t fall back into old habits.
Another speaker that we had was Robert Sweetgall, he has walked across America. He has written several books about walking, he is 61 years old and walks every day. He says you burn 1 calorie for every minute you walk. But remember walking helps your cardiovascular system. Making you much healthier and it is the cheapest form of exercise you can do. Grab a friend and go to a local trail and get started. Your whole family can get out and walk with you.
We also had a speaker Greg Risberg, he was motivating Humor with a message. Let go of Stress and see the humor in some of our most serious situations. Emphasize on what is most important in your life, don’t sweat the small stuff. He left the audience very uplifted, he has spoke in 48 States, England and Australia.
And our own Ann Ruelle, co-author of The Choice is mine. Talked about How Sweet it isn’t. Using an artificial Sweetener may make it tougher not easier to lose weight. Research says that consuming foods sweetened with saccharine can lead to greater weight gain than plain sugar. She said we eat about 152 pounds of sugar a year. Mainly be aware of what you are eating read those labels there is a lot more sugar in things than we realize. She did not say not to use your sugar subs, but when they take the fat out they add sugar for flavor.
The parade of the State kings and Queens were very impressive. As were our International Division winners. And of course the best part crowning of our International King and Queen.
I hope I have given you all a little taste of International Recognition Days. Now we can concentrate on our State Recognition Days, next year in Tulsa. Theme is “Reach your Goal on TOPS Route 66”.
