Homework Sheet / Topic- Journeys How you can help your child during this Half Term – Spring 1st 2018

Communication and Language

-Talk to your child about their day at school and tell them about your day.

-Talk about the different journeys you make and how you travel.
-Share stories from your childhood with your child. Did you have a favourite science fiction story growing up?
-Look up into the night sky, can you see the North Star? Jupiter? Talk about what else might be out there, aliens, other universes.

- Encourage your child to dress and undress independently, including zips, socks, sunhats.
- Encourage your child to help you to do simple jobs like washing up, tidying clothes and toys away and taking washing out of the machine.
- Establish a clear routine for mornings and
evenings.
-Make sure your child is going to bed at a reasonable time.
- Bring your child to school on time, pick them up on time and ensure they attend regularly.
-Encourage your child to eat a range of food and to feed themselves independently.
-Please encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast.
-Limit the time your child spends using electronic devices, ipads, tablets, phones etc. /

Physical Development

-Take your child to play in one of the local parks or the forest.

-Give your child as many opportunities as

possible to run, jump, skip, hop and climb.

- Play throwing and catching games together.

- Encourage your child to have a go at doing

up the buttons on cardigans and zips

by themselves.

-Encourage your child to make downward vertical movements with their arms as this will help them with writing.
-Making anticlockwise circles will also be beneficial, this could be running in circles, or cycling or even scooting.
Literacy
-Talk about different story settings that you might see in books and on T.V and films. Space, planets, underwater. Talk about your favourite characters from stories that you read together.
- Read your child’s PACT books to them. Listen to them reading their reading books and practising phonics sounds.
-Help them to write their name and recognise their name.
- Sing rhymes and songs, make up rhymes and songs.
- Give your child the chance to handle books and see different types of print, e.g newspaper, leaflets, signs, packaging etc.
- Provide your child with pencils, crayons, paints, brushes and equipment to draw and make marks
with.

Creative Development.

-Encourage your child to role play their favourite stories. Make a mask or dress up as aliens, astronauts etc.

- Provide your child with access to paints, crayons, glue, paper, scissors etc.

- Put on some music and dance!! - Sing songs.

- Play shops/ doctors/ tea parties etc
Understanding of the World
-London offers many different opportunities to travel by bus, tube, train, cable car and boat.
-Visit the Royal Observatory in Greenwich for free. The Planetarium is a wonderful experience and a family ticket is £20 for four.
-There are many apps available to look at the night sky, look for skywalk on itunes. / Mathematics
- Count everyday objects such as cars and buses. How many people do you think are inside. Can you count them?
- Look at numbers in the environment for example on buses and talk about them.
- Practise writing numbers 0-10 and then 10 – 20
Talk about door numbers as you walk along the street.
- Sing number songs/ Play number games with dice.
- Use mathematical language such as bigger and smaller taller/smaller and help your child to understand the difference.
- Compare objects of different heights and lengths. Talk about things that are tall and short.
- Count in two’s, tens and fives.
-Let your child experience money in real life situations, pay for an apple etc..
